  2. 'I've never heard Old Trafford as quiet in my life'published at 22:36 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

Man Utd 1-2 Sevilla (agg 1-2)

    Ally McCoist
Former Scotland striker on BBC Radio 5 live

The Sevilla fans were right up for it as you would expect. They really got behind their team and after five minutes their players had possession of the football. That was transmitted to the supporters, that their was hope.

They probably couldn't believe it. I've never heard Old Trafford as quiet in my life.

  3. 'I don’t think the performance was bad'published at 22:34 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

Man Utd 1-2 Sevilla (agg 1-2)

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho speaking to BBC Radio 5 live:

"I don’t think the performance was bad. I did my best, the players did their best. We tried, we lost and that’s football.

"The way we started was positive, after 10 to 15 minutes, Sevilla has a good team and can hide the ball in midfield. They tried to do it and did it for the majority of the time in the first half. It was good controlled performance from them without any danger.

"We had chances to score and again in the second half we had chances but the first goal would always change the direction of the game.

"Sometimes I’m lucky with changes but it was a good move by Vincenzo Montella to bring Wissam Ben Yedder on. When they scored the first goal the game was completely different."

    Man Utd 1-2 Sevilla

    - Including the 2011 final, Manchester United have only won one of their last nine Champions League knockout games (D3 L5).

    - After progressing from the Last 16 in five successive seasons – Man Utd have now been eliminated at this stage in two of their last three Champions League campaigns (2012-13 and 2017-18).

    - Sevilla are just the third side to score 2+ goals at Old Trafford against Man Utd under Jose Mourinho (Manchester City, twice and Burnley).

    - Sevilla attempted 21 shots in this match – the most that Manchester United have allowed an opposition side at Old Trafford in a competitive match since Real Madrid attempted 22 in March 2013 (Champions League).

    - Wissam Ben Yedder’s first goal was the fastest scored by a substitute in the Champions League this season (87 seconds).

  5. 'Imagine Roy Keane in that midfield'published at 22:29 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

Man Utd 1-2 Sevilla (agg 1-2)

    Ally McCoist
Former Scotland striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Cast your mind back and imagine someone like Roy Keane playing in that midfield for Manchester United. Those Sevilla players would've known they had to earn every tackle and every pass.

They might have still lost but those opposition players would've known they'd been in a game. Tonight the Sevilla players were getting so much time on the ball in midfield - this is Old Trafford when did that ever happen?

Steven N’Zonzi was allowed to play, receive the ball, on night’s gone by you wouldn’t get a second on the ball at Old Trafford.

Kwong Tse: Well played Sevilla. So glad football fans around the world don't have to watch anti-football Man Utd in the Champions League.

Aamer Igbal: Oh well. United can concentrate on the League and FA cup double now...

  8. 'United lack attacking shape'published at 22:22 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

Man Utd 1-2 Sevilla (agg 1-2)

    Ally McCoist
Former Scotland striker on BBC Radio 5 live

A similar type of team in make-up would be Spurs but they know what they are doing as an attacking side.

They have physical players like Mousa Dembele but they have a shape and everybody knows what they are about when they are attacking with players like Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Son Heung-min.

United have the physical presence but without the shape.

Taylor: Jose has lost the dressing room. No player who was committed to their manager would turn up and play like that.

  11. 'You'd have thought N'Zonzi was the £90m player'published at 22:13 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

Man Utd 1-2 Sevilla (agg 1-2)

    Ally McCoist
Former Scotland striker on BBC Radio 5 live

We can't lay the defeat down entirely at the feet of Paul Pogba but Steven N'Zonzi was exceptional. If you were looking for a £90m player you'd have thought it was him.

That said we must be looking for a lot more from Pogba, for someone of his stature to go and grab the game by the scruff of the neck and he didn't do that when he came on.

The real concerning thing if you're looking at him is his attitude, he worried me tonight.

  14. 'Tomorrow is another day'published at 22:07 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

    Man Utd 1-2 Sevilla

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho speaking to BT Sport: "I think the first goal was always going to be important, not just because of the first leg result but also the profile of the match.

"We tried to be aggressive and intense from the first minute. We didn't score and Sevilla progressively kept the ball, and they controlled the game well.

"We had good chances to score, but they scored one goal and from that moment everything became much more emotional. The second goal made it impossible.

"We had good periods, we didn't have great control over the game, but I can't say there was anything wrong with my players and their intention to play.

"That's football, we lost, but tomorrow is another day and Saturday is another match.

"I'm pleased the players aren't hiding their sadness, but we have no time for drama."

Joshua: An absolute disgrace! The players and the manager need to have a long look at themselves in the mirror tonight. Boring football, unimaginative, timid, a disgrace. I’m disgusted at that performance.

Jimmy: Scottish football is often the second cousin as far as England is concerned. Celtic fans won't be happy but if Scott Brown was in the Man Utd midfield it would have been a different story. Pogba is massively overrated.

Steve J: At the game tonight - never heard such a flat stadium. Not the fans fault, it's impossible to get behind a team playing that like. Outraged but sadly not surprised.

  18. 'There's a way to play'published at 22:02 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

Man Utd 1-2 Sevilla (agg 1-2)

    Ally McCoist
Former Scotland striker on BBC Radio 5 live

When you're at a club like this with its tradition and rich history there's a way to play and a way to win.

That's what they've had for a long period of time. There's also a way to be defeated and that was not the way for any team to be defeated in a last 16 tie.

  19. Dzeko delivers vital blowpublished at 21:59 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

    Roma 1-0 Shakhtar Donetsk

Edin Dzeko's strike ensured Roma reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2008 with victory over Shakhtar Donetsk.

The former Manchester City forward latched on to Kevin Strootman's through ball before poking the ball between Andriy Pyatov's legs for the only goal.

The Italians, who lost the first leg 2-1, went through on away goals.

Simon Muriuki: I think Jose Mourinho has a spit personality. It explains this team selection over that of the weekend. Shocking.

Johnny Moran: Nzonzi was class. Massively improved since he went to Spain.

Ronan Campbell: Mourinho not using that group of players to their best. De Gea has been their best player past 2/3 years. What does that show? An unattractive style of play. Are the players buying into Mourinho's style of play. Starting to doubt it now.
