  1. Knockoutpublished at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

    Man Utd 0-0 Sevilla

It is a measure of the struggles Manchester United have had since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement that only five players in Jose Mourinho's starting line-up have played in a Champions League knock-out game for the club at Old Trafford before.

The last time they won a knock-out game in the competition here was fairly memorable, coming back from a two-goal first-leg deficit against Olympiakos in 2014.

  2. 'A strong bench for Man Utd'published at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

Man Utd v Sevilla (19:45 GMT, agg 0-0)

    Ally McCoist
Former Scotland striker on BBC Radio 5 live

It's a strong bench for Manchester United. Paul Pogba's there, Anthony Martial is there, Juan Mata and so is Scott McTominay.

From set plays United are also a real threat with Romelu Lukaku, Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling.

  3. KICK-OFFpublished at 1 min

And we're underway at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have won their last five home matches in all competitions and they have conceded a total of just two goals in those encounters.

Will they make it six this evening?

  5. Even Sanchez will feel pressure at Man Utdpublished at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

Man Utd v Sevilla (19:45 GMT, agg 0-0)

    Ally McCoist

The further you go up the park that's where you want your creative players to take charge. Alexis Sanchez certainly comes into that category. That said I couldn't believe how poor he was and United were in that first half against Crystal Palace.

He hasn't hit the ground running but he's far too good a player to not come good.

Even somebody like Sanchez will feel pressure coming to a club like Manchester United because of the money - he might just be trying to hard.

  6. 'Rashford will be a key player for England'published at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

Man Utd v Sevilla (19:45 GMT, agg 0-0)

    Ally McCoist
Former Scotland striker on BBC Radio 5 live

I just think that all of Jose Mourinho's team have a physicality about them so for me it would be obvious that Romelu Lukaku would be one of the first picks.

The most important thing for the younger players, is that no matter if they are on the bench they have to learn and soak up the education from the older players, even from players like Juan Mata.

I think Marcus Rashford will be a very key player for England in the World Cup.

Here's the full United team for tonight. They also have Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial to call up from the substitutes bench.

Ash: Man Utd to score first but Marouane Fellaini will give away a penalty away and get sent off for a second yellow. Final score 1-1!

Anon: Hope I am proved wrong tonight, but I'm not sure what Alexis Sanchez has done since joining Man Utd to warrant a starting place. Rather see Anthony Martial on the pitch, or Mata/Pogba playing number 10.

  9. 'United will go through comfortably'published at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

Man Utd v Sevilla (19:45 GMT, agg 0-0)

Ryan Giggs speaking to SNTV: "It's always a dangerous score, 0-0. We went to Real Madrid, drew nil-nil.

"Everyone thought it was a great result but, you're always susceptible to that away goal, which will count as double, obviously.

"I mean it's not over but, I think you see the strength of United at home. They don't get beat very often.

"I think they'll go through and I think they'll go through quite comfortably."

The noisy pocket of Sevilla fans in the corner between the south and east stands at Old Trafford have been making themselves heard since their team emerged to warm-up - and I think we can expect them to increase the volume if their side threaten an upset tonight.

United are looking to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2014, when David Moyes was manager - but the Spanish side have had a much longer wait since their last appearance in the last-eight of Europe’s elite club competition.

That was back in 1958, when they beat Danish side AGF Aarhus at this stage of the European Cup, but lost 10-2 to eventual winners Real Madrid in the quarters, including an 8-0 defeat in Madrid.

But all events in that year’s European Cup were overshadowed by the Munich air disaster, which claimed the lives of 23 people, including eight Manchester United players, on their way back from their quarter-final tie in Belgrade.

  11. The best of the statspublished at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

Roma v Shakhtar Donetsk (19:45 GMT, aggregate 1-2)

    • Shakhtar Donetsk have won four of their five competitive games against Roma - all in the Champions League.
    • More than half of the teams who lose the first leg of a Champions League knockout game away from home 2-1 end up progressing (52% - 12/23).
    • But Roma have been eliminated from all four Champions League knockout ties in which they’ve lost the first leg (home or away).
    • The Ukrainian side are aiming to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign – which they did so by beating Roma 6-2 on aggregate in the round of 16.

Michael: Why on earth would Jose Mourinho start Marouane Fellaini over Scott McTominay? What does he see that no one else sees? A total liability with the ball.

  14. 'They are capable and therefore dangerous'published at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

Man Utd v Sevilla (19:45 GMT, agg 0-0)

    Alan Green
BBC Radio 5 live at Old Trafford

I would have much preferred Manchester United to have scored in Sevilla because it would have taken a lot of the pressure off.

If United don’t start quickly or score quickly they will be aware that any goal for the Spanish team will put them on the back foot.

From what I have seen of Sevilla, even though they have had problems scoring domestically they know how to score in the Champions League. They are capable and therefore dangerous.

Aleksander: I can see a repeat of Man Utds 2008 semi-final vs Barcelona. 0-0 in first leg, so United to score early tonight and then hold on for the slender and nervous 1-0 lead.

Joe: Ashley Young over Luke Shaw, no Juan Mata? Really?! And has Zlatan just quit football?

  16. 'Pogba good enough to play in a two or three'published at 19:22 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

Man Utd v Sevilla (19:45 GMT, agg 0-0)

    Ally McCoist

Roy Keane is spot on about midfielders being able to play in a two. Imagine having a conversation like this 20 years ago. Excuse me, you've been given a position in the Man Utd first eleven there are a million players who would want to play for the club!

Paul Pogba's a good enough player that he can play in a three or play in a two, just get on with it and show us your talent.

Around 2,200 Sevilla fans have made the 2,500km trek from Andalucia in southern Spain to the north-west of England tonight, including Jose and David, pictured.

Their English wasn’t the best, but it was much better than my Spanish… and they got their message across.

    Me: Are you confident?

Jose: We have a little chance of winning - and we hallucinate.

Me: Do you mean you can dream?

    Jose: No, we hallucinate.

  18. Roma wary of dangerous opponentspublished at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

Roma v Shakhtar Donetsk (19:45 GMT, agg 1-2)

Roma go into the game on a high following league victories over Napoli and Torino but they won't have forgotten how Shakhtar Donetsk came back from behind to win the first leg in Ukraine.

Shakhtar also defeated Roma at this stage in 2011.

New visitors to Manchester United tonight.

Sevilla become the 10th Spanish team to play the Red Devils in a European game and their 104th overall.

In fact, the last three Spanish sides to play at Old Trafford have been doing so for the first time.

Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo were both beaten 1-0.

Will be a nervous night here if that is the scoreline again.
