  2. 'An amazing thing'published at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2018

West Brom v Southampton (15:00 GMT)

Even with a pretty serious run of big matches in the Premier League coming up, Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino says further success in the FA Cup would be "an amazing thing".

Saints, who are 18th in the league and six points ahead of the rock-bottom Baggies, are returning to the Hawthorns just two weeks after their 3-2 league win there.

The St Mary's outfit then face Burnley, Stoke, Newcastle, Swansea and West Ham.

"Yes, they are fundamental games, and obviously every single game will be crucial," he said.

"But you can't think about the big picture all the time, you've got to think about refocusing our job day by day.

"We have to understand now when you've got this possibility, the cup is an amazing thing."

A team from the fourth tier has never knocked out two top-flight sides in the same FA Cup campaign. That’s the prize beckoning for Coventry City as they come to a sunlit Amex to take on Brighton. More grass on this pitch than the rugby-shared Ricoh where Stoke came a-cropper in the third round...

    Brighton v Coventry (15:00 GMT)

A post on the Brighton Twitter account from about 20 minutes ago read:

"Supporters are advised that platform closures at Brighton station are causing queues and delays. There is also heavy traffic southbound on the M23, and delays on the A27 - fans should leave plenty of time to get to the ground today."

So the delay could well be something to do with that.

Mark Jenkins returned to his former job as West Brom chief executive earlier this week following the dismissals of Mark Goodman and chairman John Williams.

His first task is to deal with the four experienced players who broke the midnight curfew for a night out in Barcelona by over five hours.

Jenkins has made a rather obvious point in his programme notes this afternoon.

"It would be foolish to admit anything other than the fact we are in a turbulent period."

    Quite.

    Brighton v Coventry (15:00 GMT)

Jurgen Locadia makes his debut in Brighton’s attack after recovering from a hamstring injury that has hampered him since last month's £15m club-record move from PSV, while Leo Ulloa makes his first start since returning to the club on loan from Leicester.

There are nine changes in total, with only Dale Stephens and Solly March retained from the side who drew at Stoke last weekend. March, Connor Goldson and Uwe Hunemeier all started last season’s fifth-round defeat at then non-league Lincoln.

Glenn Murray, who scored late winners for Brighton in rounds three and four, is not involved.

Brighton XI: Krul; Bruno, Goldson, Hunemeier, Suttner; Knockaert, Stephens, Kayal, March; Locadia, Ulloa.

Subs: Maenpaa, Rosenior, Izquierdo, Propper, Dunk, Baldock, Hemed.

Jack Grimmer, who scored Coventry’s third-round winner against Stoke, is recalled as Mark Robins makes four changes to the side who suffered a third straight League Two defeat at Colchester on Tuesday.

Jonson-Clarke Harris makes his first start since returning to Coventry – his first club – from Rotherham in late January.

Striker Max Biamou, who reached this stage with non-league Sutton United last season, is on the bench.

Coventry XI: Burge; Grimmer, Willis, Hyam, Haynes; Shipley, Kelly, Bayliss, Barrett; McNulty, Clarke-Harris.

Subs: O’Brien, McDonald, Kelly-Evans, Stokes, Vincenti, Biamou, Ponticelli.

The Sky Blues approach this FA Cup tie in a somewhat different frame of mind with which they went into the last two rounds.

Before the victories over Stoke and MK Dons, Coventry had won the previous league game and their promotion charge looked to be on course. The cup run was a nice bonus.

Ahead of the trip to the Amex Stadium, City have suffered their worst losing run of the season so far, three straight defeats.

Now the hope is another famous FA Cup win could provide the kick start Coventry's season badly needs.

  11. 'A distraction, but a good one'published at 14:24 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2018

    Brighton v Coventry (15:00 GMT)

Coventry boss Mark Robins: "Brighton are the hot favourites in the game but anything can happen in the FA Cup.

"This game is a distraction, but a good distraction. We have had a great run and played some great games along the way. This is another one in that line.

"If we didn't go into the game feeling it was winnable then there would be no point going.

"The difference between the two sides is there for everyone to see, and to top it off they are going to be starting their record £14m signing."

Jonny Evans and Gareth Barry both retain their West Brom places despite breaking a club curfew during a training break in Barcelona this week. Of the other two players involved, goalkeeper Boaz Myhill retains his spot on the bench, while Jake Livermore is out with a hamstring injury. Jay Rodriguez replaces the injured Daniel Sturridge in attack, while Egyptian centre-back Ali Gabr is on the bench after his work permit came through this week.

West Brom XI: Foster; Dawson, Hegazi, McAuley, Evans; Phillips, Krychowiak, Barry, McClean; Rondon, Rodriguez.

Subs: Myhill, Nyom, Gabr, Brunt, Yacob, Burke, Field.

Just one change for Southampton. Oriol Romeu – who is one booking away from a two-match ban – drops to the bench to make way for Nathan Redmond as the midfield is reshuffled. Mario Lemina, who scored in an outstanding display as the Saints won 3-2 at The Hawthorns in the Premier League two weeks ago, has recovered from a bout of dizziness to retain his place.

Southampton XI: McCarthy; Cedric, Stephens, Hoedt, Bertrand; Lemina, Hjobjerg; Ward-Prowse, Tadic, Redmond; Carrillo.

Subs: Forster, Bednarek, Pied, McQueen, Sims, Romeu, Gabbiadini.

You might not know that Coventry enjoyed a 34-year stay in English football's top flight before their relegation from the Premier League in 2011.

Their slide since then has taken them right down to the fourth tier.

But, if ever there was hope for a brighter future, they only have to look to Brighton.

Had they lost at Hereford on the final day of the 1996-97 season, they would have been plunged into non-league football.

    Brighton v Coventry (15:00 GMT)

Brighton boss Chris Hughton: "The biggest incentive is that it's a cup competition that we want to go through and go as far as we can.

"What we have been given is a home tie, some will look at it as us being favourites.

"What we are very, very conscious of is that this is the cup and any team that Coventry put out, they'll be fighting very hard to make sure that they are the team that go through.

"But we've been given a good opportunity and it's up to us to take that one."
