Will Grigg just wants a yard, he doesn’t even connect cleanly but he gets the direction.

It’s a fantastic finish, it really is, Bravo the goalkeeper can do nothing. He’s worked so hard for opportunity, and might have sent Wigan through.

GOAL - Wigan 1-0 Man Citypublished at 79 mins

    Will Grigg

    WOW!

    UNBELIEVABLE!

It's been attack after attack from Manchester City but a slip up in defence is exploited to the maximum by Wigan. Kyle Walker lets the ball run past him, thinking it's covered, but Will Grigg is on it and he charges away at goal.

Still lots to do but he slots a cool finish into the far corner.

"Will Grigg's on fire!" is the chant from all sides of the home stands. The DW Stadium is bouncing!

City starting to ramp it up, getting in behind. Great ball into De Bruyne initially.

Aguero tries to score, then the ball falls to Fernandinho, and look at the Wigan players. Throwing themselves at the ball, doing everything they can to stay in this game.

    Wigan 0-0 Man City

Kevin de Bruyne has made a massive difference since coming on. He keeps getting away from the Wigan defence, getting in crosses. At the moment, Wigan are clearing up but the ball just keeps coming back at their defence.

How long can they hold City out?

Sergio Aguero has a shot blocked, Fernandinho has an effort blocked, Danilo flashes a cross right across the face of goal.

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 72 mins

    Wigan 0-0 Man City

Yellow cards all over the show now as Callum Elder goes in late on Bernando Silva. A tired challenge. Wigan's players are looking very leggy.

  9. Postpublished at 71 mins

Kevin de Bruyne swings the ball in low towards the near post and Wigan put behind for a corner. The visitors can't make anything of the set piece, though.

Ilkay Gündogan floats the ball in for Sergio Aguero, but floats it over the striker's head.

Anon: Why did Anthony Taylor change his mind ? Either give the red or the yellow. Where is VAR when you need it.

Anon: How can VAR resolve every issue? One tackle so much divided opinion after endless analysis.

    It's Kevin de Bruyne time.

The midfielder is brought on for David Silva - not a nice sight for a tiring Wigan defence.

  14. Postpublished at 62 mins

Lovely ball by David Silva, straight through the middle of the Wigan defence but Sergio Aguero's touch lets him down and Christian Walton scoops up the ball.

    Wigan 0-0 Man City

David Perkins gives the ball away in a dangerous area. Kyle Walker is on it, but flashes his delivery across goal and out for a Wigan throw.

Kevin de Bruyne on the Manchester City bench. I wonder how long before Pep Guardiola decides he is needed to unlock this Wigan defence?

  17. Postpublished at 58 mins

    Wigan 0-0 Man City

Plenty of possession from Manchester City once again but, unusually, they are lacking the quality in their final ball.

Pep Guardiola is pacing the length of his technical area. A tough old night for his side so far.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 55 mins

    Wigan 0-0 Man City

Wigan make their first change of the game as Gary Roberts, who worked hard in the first half and had one of the hosts' better opportunites, is replaced by Michael Jacobs.

A forward for a forward but Jacobs has chipped in with seven goals this season so perhaps carries that bit more of a goal threat.

  19. Postpublished at 53 mins

    Wigan 0-0 Man City

Danilo manages to force his way through Dan Burn but then sees his shot blocked by Cheyenne Dunkley.

Manchester City have a corner, Aymeric Laporte gets his head to it but not direction and the hosts clear.

    Referee Anthony TaylorImage source, Reuters

Matthew: Referees don't have notebooks, he was recording his decision on the back of the card, but he never showed the yellow, only the red

Joshua: After all the dreadful challenges unpunished against city this year, that was a harsh red. Wow typical. Ref clearly influenced by the Wigan players.

Danny: Ref has made a right howler there. You can't let the players control you like that.
