    Wigan 0-0 Man City

Manchester City get their foot on the ball as they once again look to find an opening but that Wigan defence is watertight at the moment.

Danilo curls the ball towards the far post but Sergio Aguero can't get the direction he would like on the header and the chance is gone.

Josh: what a start from Wigan, Gary Roberts nearly in to score and then Will Grigg so unlucky after a great run!! Come on Wigan

    William: Will Grigg torturing stones...

  3. Postpublished at 15 mins

    Wigan 0-0 Man City

Manchester City are the side having to ball watch at the moment as Wigan pass it about neatly but a promising move is ended early when Nathan Byrne is caught offside.

A quarter of an hour gone and still 0-0. So far, so good for the home side.

    Wigan 0-0 Man City

Danilo knocks the ball out of play unnecessarily. He was under no pressure and just got his pass all wrong.

His performance so far in this game is reminding me of Tiemoue Bakayoko's against Watford earlier this month.

  6. CLOSE!published at 12 mins

    Wigan 0-0 Man City

I tell you what, Wigan are giving this a right good go.

Gary Roberts puts Danilo under pressure and the fullback's ball to John Stones is woeful and Will Grigg is on it in a flash. He charges towards goal before thumping an effort into the sidenetting.

They’re going to have to be very patient Wigan, pick their passes carefully. They just need one positive moment to give themselves a bit of belief, and I think the fans have a part to play in that as well.

  8. CLOSE!published at 10 mins

    Wigan 0-0 Man City

    What a chance!

A rare moment of poor defending by Manchester City sees the ball squirm through to the unmarked Gary Roberts six yards from goal. The Wigan winger even seems surprised that Manchester City were not alert to the ball and he is just beaten to it by Claudio Bravo.

That's given the home fans a real lift.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 7 mins

    Wigan 0-0 Man City

Big save by Christian Walton as he dives low to his right to push away Ilkay Gundogan's well-struck effort.

The pace Manchester City worked the ball up the field for that chance was frightening.

  11. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Wigan 0-0 Man City

A huge roar from the stands as Wigan win a free-kick on halfway, Danilo bundling over David Perkins.

It gives the hosts a chance to attack but the ball eventually goes out of play on the far right for a Manchester City goal kick.

  12. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Wigan 0-0 Man City

A sign of things to come?

Lovely move by Manchester City as Fernandinho sprays the ball out wide to Bernardo Silva. He takes a touch, looks up and then pings the ball into the box for Sergio Aguero, who heads over.

    Wigan 0-0 Man City

Caution is key for Wigan in these early stages. They've packed the midfield with Will Grigg doing the thankless task of battling against Manchester City's defence on his own.

Manchester City in possession at the moment, working the ball about the pitch slowly as they look for where the gaps are.

Sounds like Paul Cook's pre-match team talk for the Wigan players was pretty good.

Peter Reid, who played for and managed Manchester City and is currently working at Wigan, said: "I just heard it and to be honest, I nearly got my boots on!"

Wigan v Man City (19:55 GMT)

    Joleon Lescott
Former England defender on BBC One

It’s going to be a tough match for Wigan. But I am sure their manager Paul Cook has prepared them for long spells without ball. They can also take confidence from last night’s performance with Rochdale’s result against Tottenham.

  20. 'We respect what they have done so far'published at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2018

Wigan v Man City (19:55 GMT)

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Sport about challenging for four titles: "We just focus on the next one. It is no sense to think about big targets, titles etc. The schedule is the schedule, we knew that from the beginning, we are lucky we are here and we focus on Wigan.

"I saw them against Blackpool and especially against Bournemouth and they did quite well. They were able to make a good result. They have quality players to create problems.

"We respect Wigan because they are Wigan. Yes, 2013 happened, congratulations to Wigan, but we respect what they have done so far."
