Andy: Ashley Young looking old school.

Hart: Ashley Young is by far the best player on the pitch, and I never thought I'd say that.

Peter: The second wind of Ashley Young reminds a bit of when Colin Cowdrey made his England cricket comeback at the age of 42 on the 74/75.

    England 1-0 Italy

A few players certainly helped their case for a place on the plane to Russia. My picks would be Ashley Young, Raheem Sterling and Jesse Lingard based on that opening 45 minutes.

Martin: Guys, remember, this is a friendly. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We'll do our usual. Out in first knock out stage after finishing an underwhelming 2nd in the group.

Ashish: Sorry to pinch balloon but neither Netherlands nor Italy qualified in World Cup for a reason. Top 10 team definitely but top 4 in WC, doubt it.

  6. Nine hours, 42 minutes and countingpublished at 20:59 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

    England 1-0 Italy

    Ian Dennis
Radio 5 live senior football reporter at Wembley

England have gone nine hours and 42 minutes since they last conceded a goal. They're fortunate not to be behind early on as Italy dominated.

Ciro Immobile had three chances as they posed problems with an aggressive pressing game.

England gained in confidence since the Jamie Vardy goal which was down to the quick thinking of Jesse Lingard. This will be a different test that Gareth Southgate wanted.

Theo: Some encouraging link up play in the first half especially between Lingard and Sterling... what is noticeable about this new look England is their confidence on the ball and better technical skills.

Brent: I know that the haters will disagree but Sterling has had a very good game so far and played well on friday too.

Anon: England have settled, Lingard and Sterling real quality, Dier totally lost in midfield.

  9. England's World Cup unknownspublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

When England line up against World Cup debutants Panama in Nizhny Novgorod on 24 June, it will be almost two years to the day since they were humbled by another of football's emerging nations, Iceland.

Leading Panama's challenge will be their bushy-haired, well-built central defender Roman Torres - a man so popular in his football-mad home nation he is, by his own estimation, regarded rather like a film star.

BBC Sport's Shamoon Hafez spent a day in the Central American nation's capital - Panama City - with Torres and you can read all about it here.

Some uncertain moments at the back for England but real promise going forward. Raheem Sterling has been outstanding and his link with Jesse Lingard will have delighted manager Gareth Southgate.

Warm applause from the Wembley crowd at half-time.

  12. 'England different team after scoring'published at 20:53 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

    England 1-0 Italy

    Jermain Defoe
AFC Bournemouth and England striker on BBC Radio 5 live

England are going in 1-0 up and that is the most important thing. Italy have shown good intensity and tempo, and England need to stop them playing out the back. But once Jamie Vardy scored England looked a different team and created better chances.

  13. World Cup warm-up latestpublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

Manuel da Costa has given Morocco a 2-0 lead against Uzbekistan. Sweden, who beat Italy in the play-off to qualify, are 1-0 down to Romania - Dorin Rotariu scoring the goal.

  14. Pick your World Cup XIpublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

The World Cup begins in less than three months.

Time is running out for England boss Gareth Southgate to finalise his starting XI, and he has plenty to ponder.

Does Jack Butland get the nod in goal? Who starts up front with Harry Kane? Will Jordan Henderson remain in midfield?

Pick what you think is England's strongest team here.

  15. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

    England 1-0 Italy

Jamie Vardy's goal has given England the lead but Italy will feel they should be in front. They missed a few chances early on and were made to pay for it.

Can England extend their lead after the break?

  16. Postpublished at 20:47 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

    England 1-0 Italy

    Gary Flintoff
BBC Radio 5 live producer at Wembley

Gareth Southgate has sat down. Could it be the England manager is so pleased with the way in which his side is playing he no longer feels the need to stand at the edge of his technical area?

  17. World Cup warm-up latestpublished at 20:47 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

Diego Costa has given Spain the lead with a brave finish against Argentina. He appears to have been injured as he was caught by a defender and keeper as he slid in to score.

That game is being played at his club Atletico Madrid's home ground, Wanda Metropolitano.
