    England 1-0 Italy

Raheem Sterling's pace causes problems for Italy and he breaks well through the middle. He times his pass perfectly and slips it to the left for Ashley Young.

There is a more positive feeling inside Wembley compared to the recent friendlies against Germany and Brazil. Everyone is keeping their eyes on the pitch and there is no sign of any paper airplanes.

Marco Parolo then fires an effort over the crossbar. It never looked like going in but it wasn't too far away and it was fizzing fiercely...

Great work all round by England for that goal. Raheem Sterling is proving too much for Italy and Jesse Lingard was razor-sharp to take the free-kick to Jamie Vardy while Italy were getting themselves organised.

Powerful finish by Jamie Vardy but Lingard making his presence felt again after his goal against the Netherlands. He is a player who has game-changing moments and is making a big play for World Cup inclusion.

A little nervy from Jack Butland as he kicks it wide and out after John Stones' backpass came at him with some pace.

The goalkeeper wasn't helped by his centre-back.

Italy then build an attack and Ciro Immobile is allowed to run straight into the box and strike unharmlessly wide.

Really clever play from England. They earn a free-kick on the edge of the area and Jesse Lingard is smart because he plays it quickly and straight into the feet of Jamie Vardy.

Vardy smashes it straight into the top corner - making his previous effort look a little pathetic.

    Chris Waddle

Jamie Vardy perhaps had more time than he realised there. But that's the way England are going to score, set-pieces and counter attacks.

On reflection, Vardy's strike wasn't particularly great. It was straight at the keeper and didn't cause too many problems.

Oliver: Wow so this is progress? If Immobile could finish we'd be 3-0 down inside 20 mins!

Ash: 3 central defenders and no one near Immobile! Should be 3-0 down already. England riding their luck.

Gary: If Immobile had been more mobile, England would have been in trouble there. Irony

England work the ball out well from the back and Kieran Trippier sends Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on his way.

He drives into the box and is sandwiched between two defenders. He's appealing for a penalty but Raheem Sterling can still create something.

Instead, Itally just about push England out to the sideline and concede a free-kick.
