  1. Solanke's late winnerpublished at 19:57 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

    England U21 2-1 Ukraine U21

What a drama filled conclusion that was. Mykola Shaparenko deservedly headed the Ukrainians level in the 83rd minute but thankfully another substitute, Dominic Solanke, scored an almost identical goal five minutes later to snatch victory for England.

England are now five points clear in the European Championship qualifying group with four games to go.

    England v Italy (20:00 BST)

    Jermain Defoe
AFC Bournemouth and England striker on BBC Radio 5 live

I’m sure Tarkowski can play. He can be a hard man to play against, really physical centre half. A bit of the old school about him. I have said before a lot now defenders now days have lost that physicality, they don’t want to get involved.

We’ll find out tonight, but I am sure he is good on the ball.

  6. Where is the love?published at 19:49 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

England forward Raheem Sterling has urged fans to "give love" to the team going into this summer's World Cup in Russia.

"I would love to hear some positive notes coming in, just to let the boys know everyone is behind them."

So come on England, do you thing!

A bit more from England boss Gareth Southgate speaking on ITV: "We've got big numbers forward in a controlled way and that means we'll be there to create chances and if we create chances I'm sure we can finish them.

Steve: So excited to see Tarkowski lining up for The Three Lions tonight! A massive accolade for Sean Dyche and his team, for the amazing job they are doing at Burnley.

Neill: Dele Alli benched for last two games is this a message from Southgate?

Egypt, who have rested Mohamed Salah (well he's on the bench), are 1-0 down to Greece in Switzerland.

Tunisia are 1-0 up against Costa Rica thanks to a goal from Wahbi Khazri, who is on loan from Sunderland to Rennes.

  11. 'Alli an important player for us'published at 19:44 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

    England v Italy (20:00 BST)

Gareth Southgate speaking to ITV: "We wanted to keep some stability. We need to look at others players too though and tonight is a good test for us.

"James Tarkowski has done well with us, his club and he fits the way we play. We need to see other options at centre-back too for this summer.

"It is nice for Jack Butland as most of his caps have been away from Wembley. Dele Alli hasn't been able to train fully this week but he is of course, a very important player for us."

  12. Better luck this time?published at 19:43 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

    England v Italy (20:00 BST)

It's been a few years since Italy last played England at Wembley but they came out on top that evening in June 2014.

In the opening match of the World Cup, a Mario Balotelli header just after the break confirmed a 2-1 victory for the Azzurri after Daniel Sturridge had equalised for England.

Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling were in the starting line-up that day.

Jake: Look at the pace in the England side. There's not a lot of creativity in the midfield, but that speed should terrify any defense...if Southgate lets them run.

Alex: Delighted for Tarkowski, and actually quite an exciting line up with tons and tons of pace that should frighten any defence in the world! Can Dier perform and captain the team as well as Henderson did on Friday night? It will be interesting...

    England v Italy (20:00 BST)

Harry Kane scored 79 seconds into his England debut in a routine Euro 2016 dismissal of Lithuania at Wembley on this day three years ago.

He emerged as a substitute after 70 minutes with England already on the way to a fifth win from five qualifiers with goals from Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Raheem Sterling.

The stage was set for the 21-year-old and he scored with just his third touch as a full England international, heading in Sterling's cross at the far post.

England's opponents Italy are high-profile absentees from this year's World Cup after losing in the play-offs to Sweden. They lost 2-0 to Argentina in a friendly on Friday and Italian journalist Fabio Licari admits the team are going through a difficult spell:

"It is the most dramatic period for the Italian national team since 1974 when we started the big disaster after Germany 74’.

"Now we are in a difficult moment because we have a national team outside the World Cup, and a coach Luigi Di Biagio who we are sure will not be the coach of this team in future.

"The only sure thing is that we are in a difficult moment.

"We can only ask so much of this team. It is a team without much strength, with many young players who are only playing with the national team for the first time.

"Leonard Bonucci said there is no competition between Italy's young players and England's young players. England's young players play for big teams and have Champions League experience. But be sure if we lose the game it will be a big shock for us."

  16. Brilliant Kenny clearancepublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

    England U21 1-0 Ukraine U21

England are still ahead but have spent the last few minutes on the back-foot here and are probably a tad fortunate to be leading.

They are, largely due to a brilliant goal line clearance by Jonjoe Kenny, who put his head in the way of Maksym Lunyov's piledriver. Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Viktor Kovalenko is also looking quite a handful and has just fired wide.

James Maddison has curled England's best opportunity wide and while a goal may have been unjust on the balance of play it would certainly have been welcome.

I remember in my younger days a certain Michael Owen being given the armband a few times ... a gifted footballer but certainly not a leader of men.

  19. 'I wouldn't take both Wilshere and Lallana'published at 19:30 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

    England v Italy (20:00 BST)

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

I wouldn't take both Jack Wilshere and Adam Lallana to the World Cup due to injury worries, just one of them. Wilshere is a talented footballer, but when he gets an injury, normally it is not a week, it's six. If he picks up an injury in the first game of the World Cup then he's out of the tournament.

He would have to be super fit from now until the end of the season to prove himself.

  20. World Cup warm-up latestpublished at 19:28 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

Switzerland are thrashing fellow World Cup qualifiers Panama 6-0 in a friendly, with six different goalscorers. There are still over 20 minutes left in Lucerne.

Iran - the second team to clinch a World Cup place through qualifying - are 2-1 up against Algeria, while Japan lost 2-1 to Ukraine earlier.
