    Spurs 4-1 Rochdale

It's still snowing and visibility of the ball and action is actually becoming a bit more difficult now from a distance.

But surely it won't be bad enough to abandon?

    Spurs 4-1 Rochdale

Fernando Llorente has more than doubled his goals tally for Spurs tonight. One in the Premier League, one in the Champions League and now three in the FA Cup.

    Hat-trick.

And not even VAR can save Rochdale now.

Son Heung-min runs down the right and lifts up an excellent cross which Fernando Llorente heads home from six yards out.

Matt, London: Football has died a little for me today. Don’t underestimate the damage this does to the game. You can’t compare to rugby or cricket, as football’s unique selling point is that it’s free flowing sport with high pace and limited stoppages. If this delay ridden mess is how the future looks then you’ll have less kids putting jumpers down for goalposts in the future.

Alan Guthrie: Re VAR: As football seems to be learning from tennis (eg sequencing of penalty shootouts), why not copy the Hawkeye model: take pressure off referee and give team managers 3 challenges per game. Would avoid every incident being queried and would put focus on managers' skill - or lack of.

    Spurs 3-1 Rochdale

Rochdale came from behind in the first game, but is two goals a step too far? Stephen Humphrys is down injured now for the visitors.

  7. goal

    Fernando Llorente

Spurs are in control now. Son Heung-min plays it down the right to Lucas Moura, who crosses for Fernando Llorente to toe-poke the ball home from close range.

That's probably game over now. (Famous last words).

Paul Robinson, Scunthorpe: Well VAR has brought this game to life, love it

Anon: Is there any point in having a ref if everything is referred to VAR? Why not just have VAR referee it all from a distance? Pathetic!!

Cenzo, Fareham: They should mark fixtures that use VAR so we can avoid them. This is not football as we no it.

Only one topic of conversation in the media room at half-time.

Everyone has an opinion of VAR and after that 45 minutes, there was not much positivity I can tell you.

I suppose it is better than moaning about the cold.

    Spurs 2-1 Rochdale

Spurs left-back Danny Rose picks out Son Heung-min, who takes a second to think about shooting and he's crowded out.

Fernando Llorente is now played in on goal again but Josh Lillis gets there first this time and clears.

Anon: Football has died a bit more tonight. This is only entertaining if you enjoy watching a lottery. Clueless administrators.

Baz: I disagree, Son was still 2 yards from the ball when he hesitated, so run up not completed. Has anyone seen Balotelli's penalties?

Paul: I'd sooner VAR (or the use of it) resulted in a few incorrect decisions rather than suffer an injustice of the magnitude of Lampard's non-goal against Germany at the 2010 World Cup. Defy any England fan to disagree.

Duncan, Isleworth: Despite all the criticism VAR has got every decision right. Could this match go down in history as the most perfectly officiated game of football in history?!

Anon: I'm trying to teach my 9 year old footy rules - this first half is confusing us all. VAR, take a bow ...

  16. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Spurs 1-1 Rochdale

We are under way in the second half. The kick-off has to be taken again for encroachment. What is happening? We must be due some foul throw-ins.

Former England Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas on BT Sport: "VAR could be so good for the game. It's comical at times, how long it's taking and nobody knows what's going on."

Former Premier League referee Chris Foy on BT Sport: "What's been misconstrued (people are not realising) is that VAR looks at match-changing instances. Every time a goal is scored it is automatically checked. The referee feels there is a foul by Llorente in the disallowed Lamela goal. Without VAR I think that goal would have stood."

Anon: Law 14: The Penalty Kick - "feinting to kick the ball once the kicker has completed the run-up (feinting in the run-up is permitted)" Given Son is 3m from completing his run and the keeper is yet to move, is this really at the end of his run-up...?

Jonty, London: VAR is a joke tonight. First is a farce and since when has encrouchment or stopping led to a free kick, its always retaken.

Anon: Surely the encroachment occurs before the stutter so it should have been a retake anyway?! People say nobody in the stadium knows what's going on but nobody at home does either, do the refs?

Chris Robins: The VAR process is farcical even when they get it right! Why don’t they learn from Rugby Union who have the system spot on and everybody knows what is happening!

TimDYo: Can we get a VAR decision on the VAR?

Charles Davie: Exactly the same luddite views about VAR were heard in cricket, tennis and rugby. It takes one season and then it's an asset to the game. Be patient.
