Chris Baldwin: So VAR so good for Dale.
Martyn Pritchard: At Wembley and not one fan knows what’s going on. This is the main problem with VAR. What’s the point of paying to be at the game when you have no clue what’s going on?

Lee Hounslow: Thought VAR was supposed to be for obvious errors/decisions, not every decision. Scrap it!
uberpwnage_23: This really is quite the extraVARganz.
James Baker: VAR works end of. The issue seems to be how it is communicated to the audience.

Boos ring out from the home sections at Wembley as Paul Tierney signals the end of a highly controversial half.
But don't let the controversy get in the way of how well Rochdale have played.
The League One's bottom club have done themselves proud and Tottenham are going to have to up their game in the second half.
It's been a terrific effort by Keith Hill's players.

There is utter bemusement around the stadium. And it's just to do with the lack of clarity. With the penalty decision, we got the gist of that. That they were seeing if it was in the box or not.
But we need some sort of indication. The decision not to give the penalty when the ball was in the net... a lot of people in the stadium wouldn't have known why.
Spurs 1-1 Rochdale
I've just had a look at the laws and the issue with Son Heung-min was that he feinted after completing his run-up. You can do it during your run if you want.
Here is Rochdale's (refreshing non-controversial) equaliser...

Looking at the rule on taking penalties, I think the ref did really well, but it's the uncertainty in the stadium. Even up here in the gantry, we don't know what's happening and what he's looking at, and that's what needs to be addressed. My question is this, why complicate it? Why can't we copy the rugby and the cricket? It would cut out so much confusion.
Brighton centre-back Shane Duffy, whose club played in the first English VAR game, isn't too impressed...

Miles Norgan: Why are people complaining about VAR? If it hadn’t been used, Spurs would incorrectly be 3-0 up and tie over. Instead it’s 1-1 and all to play for with an underdog having a chance to win, not losing the game because of refereeing mistakes.
Steven Shaw: From what I can see, it's not the VAR that's the problem, it's the way it's being used and the lack of communication. It's all very well saying that mistakes are part of the game but will that still apply if those mistakes start costing your team points? I think not.
Spurs 1-1 Rochdale
Referee Paul Tierney has been at the heart of everything so far... He had his hand next to his ear more than a DJ in a Hollywood film.
Spurs 1-1 Rochdale
At least they have started telling fans in the ground that there is a VAR review. They weren't doing that last month for the earlier games.
Spurs 1-1 Rochdale
I'm off for a lie-down.
Spurs 1-1 Rochdale
Boos as the half-time whistle goes.
Spurs 1-1 Rochdale
Oh, here we go again. Referee Paul Tierney has a word with the VAR again - presumably to discuss if it might be an Erik Lamela red card but decides not.

Steve James: Referee’s job is being made so much harder by something that’s supposed to help him
Alan Povey: Spot on, ref. A goalkeeper can’t move off the line, but a penalty taker can perform Swan Lake before striking the ball.
Spurs 1-1 Rochdale
Reckless tackle by Erik Lamela on Callum Camps. Yellow card. Spurs are rattled.
Spurs 1-1 Rochdale
Rochdale win a corner, they send a few players up but it's half-cleared.
Now you can watch some more of the mayhem...
