    Liverpool 3-0 Man City

One away goal would turn this on its head. Do Liverpool keep going forwards? I think it's the only way they can play.

City have had 54% of possession but they trail by three. It's a superb start to the tie for the Reds.

    No, I thought not.

    Sadio Mane (31 mins)

    Ah...

This is an onslaught! Who saw this coming?!

Mo Salah cuts inside Aymeric Laporte and drives in a shot, it's blocked by Vincent Kompany but spins back to the Egyptian, He reverts to an orthodox winger and chips a lovely cross, Sadio Mane is between Kompany and another defender and heads down, into the turf and in at a barely believeing Kop end...

    Liverpool 2-0 Man City

A word of warning to Liverpool and their fans - let's not forget that in the league meeting in January Liverpool were 4-1 up at one point and it ended 4-3.

In a two-legged affair that would make it a very different story...

This is so open. It's brilliant. In his lowry suite, Jose Mourinho has just turned over and put Masterchef on.

Flaxman: Man City all over the shop defensively. Are they rattled from the coach situation? They don't look like they want to be there!

Nick: What a hit by Chamberlain! Beautiful first touch too. Absolute rocket!

Peter: Oxlade Chamberlain is up there for goal of the week with that hit, even after Ronaldo last night. What a strike!

    Liverpool 2-0 Man City

Ian Dennis on 5 live has reported that a few flares were let off in the Kop after that goal. Liverpool could well be heading for some Uefa sanctions after tonight. They could also be heading for the last four.

Plenty of time for Manchester City to respond though - but that's close! What a cross in by Trent Alexander-Arnold, just about cleared by Nicolas Otamendi...

    Barcelona 0-0 Roma

Close for Barcelona again as Luis Suarez's stinging shot after a Lionel Messi one-two is turned away for a corner by Alisson Becker.

    Liverpool 2-0 Man City

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield

Liverpool fans are in dreamland here - this is the start they will have been dreaming about. In fact they may not even have dreamed of a start as good as this.

Manchester City have been sloppy at the back. No closing down and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain took full advantage. Just as he did in Liverpool's 4-3 win here in January.

    Liverpool 2-0 Man City

James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may not strike the casual viewer across Europe as a Champions League winning midfield but they have been excellent thus far.

That's seven assists for Milner in the Champions League this season, three more than any other player.

Recall for Russia? Ask to reconsider retirement?

Wow. WHAT A STRIKE from Oxlade Chamberlain. I said he started well, that is even better. He's been allowed to strike it from 25 yards, Ederson is rooted to the spot, it just flew past the goalkeeper. What a start for Liverpool. Wow.

GOAL - Liverpool 2-0 Man Citypublished at 20:06 British Summer Time 4 April 2018

    Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (20 mins)

    Woooosh!

My word that is some hit! Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain finds the perfect time to strike the ball as cleanly as he ever will in his whole career!

The ball breaks his way 25 yards out, dead centre, and as Vincent Kompany charges him down he absolutely smacks a drive into the corner. It was past Ederson before he could get a dive in.

What a lead for Liverpool now!

Mohamed Salah has 38 goals this season - only Cristiano Ronaldo (39) has more in Europe's big five leagues.

What a signing he has been. Nobody could have expected this.

City now back on top in terms of possession, they always were to be honest. The visitors will still be confident.

Tony: Poor goalkeeping for the goal. Twice

Rachel: What on EARTH was Kyle Walker DOING?

Hammut: City getting overrun so far, the only question is if Liverpool can keep this tempo up over an entire game... We could be in for a repeat of that 4-3 in the Premier League

  18. Postpublished at 20:04 British Summer Time 4 April 2018

Having just seen another replay of the goal I can say that Mo Salah was just offside, just, and Kyle Walker should have done much, much better with his clearance.

    Marginal gains.

  20. 'He cannot stop scoring!'published at 20:03 British Summer Time 4 April 2018

    Liverpool 1-0 Man City

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield

In a typically frenetic Anfield atmosphere, which boiled over in the disgraceful scenes before kick-off when Manchester City's coach was damaged, Pep Guardiola's side had been looking to take the heat out of the game.

It looked to be succeeding until the inevitable intervention of the man who simply cannot stop scoring, Mo Salah. He is, among many other things, an arch-oppoortunist and he pounced on that ball to send Anfield into an explosion of joy.
