Big night for Trent Alexander-Arnold. We saw at old Trafford that Marcus Rashford got a couple of goals against him.

He's up against Leroy Sane tonight, it's going to be a big test for the youngster.

Great run from Leroy Sane! He has three defenders in between him and the goal and he slaloms through them all, before hitting a low shot into the side-netting. Deflected. Corner. Cleared.

The quick switch of play finds Leroy Sane and he too is funnelled inside. City starting to boss the play, Kevin de Bruyne very deep and central alongside Fernandinho.

Pep Guardiola applauds Aymeric Laporte as he snaps into a tackle on halfway, high up on the left-hand side. There's a lot of space in behind him.

Liverpool make a typically frantic opening, with Vincent Kompany having to stretch to clear away under pressure. Kevin de Bruyne then drives City forward on the counter but it comes to nothing. Breathless stuff.

Manchester City have indeed started with a back four, Aymeric Laporte at left-back.
