Will Arsenal have an eye on Thursday's Europa League quarter-final second-leg against CSKA Moscow? They won the first leg 4-1 at home on Thursday.

On Friday Arsene Wenger said: "The time is very short, you could see that in the second half against CSKA we suffered a little bit to maintain the physical quality of the first half.

"The question mark will be for me, who do I rest? Who do I bring in? Who recovers well?

"But Sunday’s game is important for us because we want to continue to win football games and the best way to come out of Thursday’s win is to win on Sunday."

I said on Football Focus last week that Arsenal's form is a bit like when you are feeling ill and take some antibiotics - you think you are cured but actually you are still not right.

They will beat Southampton at home, though.

    Prediction: 2-0

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is ruled out for Arsenal after injuring his knee against CSKA Moscow on Thursday.

However, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can return after being ineligible for that game.

Back-up goalkeeper David Ospina is likely to be missing for three weeks after spraining his ankle in training.

Southampton will assess midfielder Mario Lemina, who has been suffering from illness this week and only returned to training on Friday.

Defender Sam McQueen is out with a groin strain, and is Saints' only confirmed absentee.

I just think Jose Mourinho needs to let the players go out and express themselves. Marcus Rashford has so, so much potential, he needs to be playing. In that game, I might have even played him over Romelu Lukaku for his pace in behind and that threat he poses.

Pep Guardiola can't be considered a great manager until he manages a poor side and makes them winners, while his teams play good football he has only ever managed teams that already had the best squad before he got there, and then he has spent more money than any other teams in the league to make them even better!

If you look at Jose Mourinho and how he sets up his team it's always defensive first. He always wants to be solid first up, he was like that at Chelsea, Real Madrid and now at United.

But that's not how United have been historically, the fans want a fast start and to be on the front foot. That second half was a glimpse into how destructive United can be if he lets them play with freedom.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho: "I think we are a bit better than people think. The players are a bit better than people think and I am a bit better than people think. We deserve a bit more respect than people give.

"Of course City are frustrated because they wanted to do it today, but I congratulate them for the title because they are going to win and deservedly."

This is a real test of Manchester City's character now, we've seen how they can play football wonderfully, but they've lost two in a row now, conceding three both times, so it's a massive game on Tuesday.

But I don't think Pep Guardiola will need to pick his players up for a Champions League quarter-final tie, they'll be ready for it.

Goonies: I know David De Gea made a stunning save but what about his poor clearance which led to the second City goal? Nobody - NOBODY - has mentioned that.

Unbelievably, I've just put this in again by accident. Can't say nobody's mentioned it now though?

A day before the Manchester derby of course, City manager Pep Guardiola claimed that he had been offered the chance to sign to sign Paul Pogba in January.

Pogba's agent Mino Raiola told BBC Sport he did not speak to Guardiola but did not deny telling City of the players' availability.

Mourinho joked after the derby win that Pogba's "price has gone up", while Pogba celebrated in front of the United fans after the game and seemed to make a gesture telling them not to listen to any speculation.

Pogba told Sky Sports: "If they won they are champions, for all the fans it would be like death.

"To lose against City and to see them celebrate, I couldn't let that happen."

True - he played it straight to Leroy Sane. But more than made up for it over the match?

A lot has been spoken about Paul Pogba all season, for good and for bad. The first half was the negative - he did not threaten the midfield or the backline and was passive.

Sometimes he has a tendency to trot around - there are no drastic movements. He is sometimes over-elaborate in midfield - it invites pressure and puts his team in trouble.

In the second we saw a different player. He can play with responsibility and get into goalscoring positions.

If he does that more, he has all the attributes do it and score more regularly. He can be that top-class player he is threatening to be.

There was one major European league title settled yesterday though - Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga for the sixth time in a row.

That's a replica trophy above, the real one's not actually bendy.

Business as usual you might say, but Bayern were five points behind Borussia Dortmund when they lured Jupp Heynckes out of retirement in October for his fourth spell as manager, after sacking Carlo Ancelotti.

  19. Pep prioritising Champions League?published at 12:20 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    Man City 2-3 Man Utd

BBC radio 5 live commentator at Emirates Stadium

It was interesting to see Pep Guardiola opt not to start Sergio Aguero yesterday - because he would have put away one or two of those chances in the first half, which could have killed the game. Was it a case of Pep prioritising the Champions League over winning the title against Man United? Maybe.

It's a strange situation now, where will they win the title? They could win it due to other results, and then it's just not the same. It really was the chance of a lifetime to win it against their greatest rivals.
