Man City 2-3 Man United: Pep Guardiola says that everything City did was good

Man City boss Pep Guardiola: "We will try to pick ourselves up for Liverpool, we are professionals.

"It is a special day for United, which is a pity. We did absolutely everything in the first half but then for 10-15 minutes we conceded goals. It is what it is, but we move forward.

"We played with courage and created so many chances. Some penalties in the first half, some in the second half, but we have to improve."

Tom Blakey: All these Man City fans whinging about refereeing decisions now know how the rest of the league feels.

Ismail: Man City fans moaning about Ashley Young. What about Danilo,he should have been sent off before that for persistent fouling. Swings and roundabouts.

Keiran Bacchus: I'm an idiot. Love watching football from my sofa. But even I could get Stevenage or Grimsby into the Champions League in 5 years with 500 mill a year! Not tactical genius - just a large wallet.

This City team can be beaten. They should have been 6-0 up at half-time but they have a weakness. My worry for City is that after seeing how much they gave tonight, I can't see them coming back against Liverpool now.

City were shattered, they were out on their feet. It will be a bigger comeback than Liverpool winning in Istanbul if they win in midweek now. It will take one of the great European comebacks.

Next weekend - if they beat Tottenham at Wembley on the Saturday (19:45 BST kick-off) and United lose at home to bottom club West Brom on Sunday (16:00).

If after those games the gap remains at 13 points then City can win it with victory at home to Swansea on Sunday, 22 April.

Michael Turner: Yesterday saw Man City return to clenching defeat from the jaws of victory. I’ve missed the old City.

Steve Howes: Pep Guardiola has no plan B, when a game starts that's it. He has been found out by Liverpool and now Man United. Even I could build a team with £500m every season.

Liz Tray:Well done Man United. The highlight of your season is delaying Man City's title win by two weeks. City's players will have nightmares about those missed sitters. All it proved was that we need VAR. With it, that stonewall penalty is given. Painful stuff.

Let's not forget how outstanding Man City have been this season though. They've played some sensational football at times - not only because of their money but because of their ideas and hard work.

Also - what about the controversial turning points in yesterday's game: Should City have had a penalty from that Ashley Young challenge on Sergio Aguero for example?

  9. 'Nice to see United with aggression'published at 11:39 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    Man City 2-3 Man Utd

    BBC Radio 5 live

Former Liverpool manager Roy Evans on BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek programme:

“I was surprised because City were well in charge but it’s one of them, if you get a goal you get a lifeline. It was nice to see United come and play in the second half and it shows what they can achieve with a bit of aggression.

"It’s not the end of the world for City, the alarm bells will be ringing but the Champions League tie isn’t over either. I’m sure Pep Guardiola is experienced enough to boost their egos and get them back on track and they won’t go down without a fight. A fit Mohamed Salah will be a massive boost for Liverpool."

    Robbie Savage
Ex-Leicester City & Wales midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

The first half was so one-sided United were embarrassing. Each and every player. Defensively it is the worst I have seen them.

But then they came out in the second half and they showed desire. Jose Mourinho must have said 'go out there and show these fans that you care about this derby'.

    Unbelievable, what a game.

So what did Jose Mourinho say at half-time?

Here's Chris Smalling: "The manager didn't have to say much at half-time as we knew ourselves as players it was a poor performance.

"He said that we didn't want to be the clowns standing there watching them get their title. City have been fantastic here all season, but we stepped up and won the game."

City went into this derby with a 16-point lead so the Premier League title is a formality - but they and their fans wanted it now, a show of power and glory they could parade in front of their neighbours.

As blue smoke swirled around the stadium from a flare and United and their supporters were being subjected to a range of cruel taunts, it seemed nothing could deny City their wish as they led 2-0 after a first 45 minutes in which United were dazzled and bewildered by City's brilliance.

And yet, for all that glitter, a frailty has suddenly appeared in City - shown by conceding three goals in 19 minutes while losing 3-0 to Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-final first leg at Anfield on Wednesday - and when Pogba and United blew, the house fell down.

    Man City 2-3 Man Utd

    Robbie Savage
Ex-Leicester City & Wales midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

You have to give United so much credit. City are heads and shoulders above every side in the country, no doubt about that. But United were like Rocky Balboa. They were on the ropes getting smashed and on their knees but they landed one punch and came back to win.

That was the best 45 minutes from Paul Pogba in a Manchester United shirt.

Manchester City were sensational in the first half, they could have been at least four goals up by half-time.

But Manchester United after the break had so much more energy, so much more forward thrust. Their reaction was absolutely first class.

    Danny Murphy

It was exciting. I love games that shock me and this one certainly did. Manchester United were 50-1 at half-time, let's put it that way. City were brilliant in the first half but United were brilliant in the second half.

United played with freedom - it just shows the potential they have got, this team. If they played like that more often, we'd enjoy watching them more.

What a game. Football is the quite the thing sometimes.

A superb Manchester United comeback when the best team in the league were looking invulnerable.

It won't matter of course - Manchester City will win the league. But not against their fiercest rivals and no - they are not without weakness. Liverpool know that too by now.
