Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports: "After 15 minutes I said we'd be champions, after what happened and we reacted.

"These guys are fantastic and awesome. What's happened in the last week is so unfair. We have a second chance against Swansea and we're going to try and be champions.

"Today, we've done it many many times and that's why we're in the position we are. I am so so glad to be here and be part of the club. It was so good. The performance was so good.

"[If City win title tomorrow] I have a golf game tomorrow. I have three days off and tomorrow I have golf. Golf, my son, friends, tomorrow is golf.

"I will be so happy and I will celebrate but I think United will win (against West Brom). The important thing is that we know we depend on ourselves. We have to win it at home. I am excited to be champions with our fans."

BBC One

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino told BBC Sport:

"I am not going to complain about the penalty. I think that many things happen during a lot of games, sometimes it is for you and sometimes not.

"In the end, if we analyse the game, they fully deserve the victory.

"We struggled to start in the game. When we conceded the penalty, we started to play.

"For sure they are going to win the PL but I'm disappointed because we didn't compete in the first 25 minutes."

"In football you always want to compete and win. We feel that we are close but it is not enough.

"Of course, when you are calm and relaxed, you think in the last few seasons we are improving. But we still need to improve to reach the last level which is the most difficult thing."

Shortly before Tottenham kicked off, third-placed Liverpool recorded a comfortable victory over Bournemouth to move three points clear of Spurs.

Manager Jurgen Klopp praised their "exceptional" display as they ended an "outstanding week" to move to within point of second-placed Manchester United.

It was also bad news for Harry Kane as Mohamed Salah added to his tally - netting his 30th goal of the season to move five ahead in the race for the Golden Boot.

Manchester City have won 14 away games in the Premier League this season – the only side to have won more in a single campaign is Chelsea in 2004/05 (15).

Spurs were unbeaten in 14 games in the Premier League before tonight’s defeat and the last team to beat them were Pep Guardiola’s side back in December.

Prior to this evening, Spurs hadn’t lost a Premier League home game by a margin of two or more goals since August 2014 (0-3 v Liverpool).

Raheem Sterling scored his 22nd goal of the season for Manchester City, which is now at least twice as many as he’s registered in any of his previous seasons in all competitions (11 in 2014/15 and 2015/16).

Pep Guardiola’s side are one of four clubs to have won away at all three of Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs in the same Premier League campaign (alongside Coventry in 1993-94, Charlton in 2001-02 and Blackburn in 2002-03).

Tottenham conceded a goal from the penalty spot in the Premier League for the first time in 59 games, last conceding against West Ham in November 2016.

Leopardman: Lots of hatred for Spurs today. At least we produce English talent and we don’t buy the league. End of unbeaten 14 game run. Well done City. Much deserved win.

Pete Berry: Never in doubt tonight - City only lose, drop points, against other NW teams: Wigan, Everton, L'pool, Man Utd. Lancashire kryptonite effect.

Hashir Badar: Shake it off haters, we are the best. Great resilience shown by the team after a difficult weak. With Mendy back next season 3-5-2 would be the formation to go.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier speaking to Sky Sports: We started very poorly today and not how we envisaged starting. It was a big hill to climb once they'd scored their two goals. When it went 3-1, the game was over.

Our mentality needed to be better to start the game in the right way. Man City started on the front foot. Against a team like them, it's difficult if you're two goals behind. We reacted well and at the beginning of the second half we played well too. We didn't have it in us to get back into the game again.

Anon: I do love how quick people are to praise City and pan Spurs for not being title material, quick to forget the difference in budgets. Also the praise for Pep is just funny, where was his genius last year?

Tom: Dele Alli was injured from 65 minutes. Yet again Pochettino makes awful subs and kills our momentum. His subs always seem panicked. Don't even get me started on error-prone Lloris!

Manchester City

Manchester City goalscorer Raheem Sterling speaking to Sky Sports: "We needed a big turnaround and from the beginning we started strong. They put us under pressure but we started well.

"[On the penalty] I remember seeing the keeper running out and I thought I'd get a touch before him and I got a penalty so I can't complain.

"In the game against Manchester United I snatched a few and didn't take my time.

"Today I tried to take my time and be composed."

Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne speaking to Sky Sports: "Today we scored the goals and defended better and we deserved to win it.

"It's been a tough two weeks for us with five games. They [Tottenham] didn't have a game for a week and that's the advantage they had. The mental toughness of this team is unbelievable.

"We're almost there, we knew we had to win two of six games. That's not bad odds for us.

"We need to do our thing and hopefully we can finish it off next week."

I think you have to give Man City the credit tonight. I've been really impressed with Spurs of late and they came into this game full of confidence. But City showed a lot of pride and character tonight and said in this game why they were champions. We could pick holes in Spurs' performance but we really ought to give City credit. They showed that the last week was really a blip.

It was a week to forget for Manchester City following their defeats against Manchester United and Liverpool but they responded with a professional performance at Wembley.

Spurs did their best to get back into the game after suffering those two early goals in the first half but City rode the storm before Raheem Sterling capped things off.

It means Man City just need to win one more game to be crowned Premier League champions - though results elsewhere in Man United's games against West Brom and Bournemouth this week could mean they are handed the title earlier.

Ralph Pedersen: Poch got it wrong tonight unfortunately. Playing a very high line against the best and quickest forwards in the league was always a risky move.

James Wilson: Think it's a bit poor that half the ground has emptied, given how well Spurs have done for their fans this season and that they're only 3-1 down against a very good side.

Pario: Tottenham have really burst my bubble. Was hoping for a 4th successive defeat for the Citizens.

Manchester City have answered all the critics tonight. Crisis? What crisis? Emphatic winners tonight against a really strong Tottenham side. They came out and asserted themselves. Spurs were a bit fortunate to get back into it but then City showed real character to re-establish control in the second half. They have shown their champions' quality this evening.

All over. Manchester City go one step closer to winning the title while Tottenham's 14-game unbeaten streak comes to an end.
