Erik Lamela finds space coming in off the right but instead of slipping it into Harry Kane he tries to score from distance - with his strike always going wide of the post.

Kane isn't happy about it and he's let his teammate know.

City are controlling the midfield so far. Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli are being forced to sit in and defend and have barely been involved in this game.

Man City are on a roll now. Leroy Sane charges down the left, accelerating from Davinson Sanchez but the defender recovers in time to block his shot from close range.

That's a really poor challenge from Ben Davies. He's caught Vincent Kompany halfway up his shin and that could easily have been a red card. I think that's a shocking challenge. Surely that was endangering an opponent?

As Raheem Sterling plays the ball on towards Leroy Sane, Hugo Lloris takes him out. It was right on the line of the penalty area and Sterling's momentum carries him into the box. Then, what a composed penalty from Ilkay Gundogan. He nonchalantly puts it into the bottom corner. Breathtaking start from Manchester City.

Hugo Lloris takes out Raheem Sterling on the edge of the area and it looks like a stonewall penalty but there are appeals from Spurs players who think it's outside of the area.

They might just be right.

They thoroughly deserve the lead. But it's just one long ball over the top. Gabriel Jesus runs off the back of Davinson Sanchez and is a yard onside when Kompany plays it over. Jesus stays composed and slots it past Hugo Lloris to put City ahead.

That will be so frustrating for Spurs. Sanchez didn't track Jesus closely enough and he shouldn't have been outpaced. He made the wrong decision but credit to Jesus for a nice finish.

When City are in possession, Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva are looking to dictate everything. It's been a bit better from Spurs though in the last few minutes as Eric Dier is getting closer to that pair. Spurs have just started to string a few passes together.

David Silva is given too much space yet again and he uses the time to pick out Leroy Sane on the left.

Sane slips it into the box - looking for Raheem Sterling who had got on the wrong side of Mousa Dembele - but the Spurs midfielder does enough to put him off.

Ilkay Gundogan then has an effort deflected on the edge of the area.

Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli try to combine on the edge of the area but Ilkay Gundogan does well to nick it off the toe of Alli.

City then look to go on the counter through Kevin de Bruyne but he's hacked down in the middle and is awarded a free-kick.

Samba: Man City are really hungry for goals and want to win this match tonight and are as well angry with themselves for the past weeks. No relenting from them. Foot on the gas pedal!!!

Mervin: City have the edge here despite being the debacle side, though they've been dreadful in the last 10 days or so, but their first halves against United and then in the second leg vs Liverpool they were as good as they've been this season.

Eric Dier plays a lovely ball over to Kieran Trippier on the right and the full-back plays it in first time looking for Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

It's a good ball too but it's defended well by City.

Fabian Delph does well to turn and win a free-kick under pressure from Erik Lamela and Harry Kane.

Christian Eriksen is also doing his job well but Spurs just can't seem to keep hold of the ball at the moment.

Christian Eriksen presses the City back four well and gets in the way of Vincent Kompany's pass but he can only deflect it out for a throw-in.
