Wigan secured automatic promotion back to the Championship last week, and could win automatic promotion if results go their way today

Wigan and Blackburn are both promoted, and the Latics will clinch the title if they beat Wimbledon and Blackburn lose at Charlton. Any other combination of results and it goes to the final day.

Shrewsbury and Rotherham are guaranteed play-off berths, but the rest of the picture is incredibly unclear.

Nobody else can confirm play-offs places today because of Scunthorpe and Plymouth’s games in hand.

As it stands, Charlton and the Iron occupy fifth and sixth position, but they could both still be overhauled by any two of Plymouth, Portsmouth, Peterborough or Bradford.

The Addicks host second-placed Blackburn, while Scunthorpe visit all-but relegated MK Dons, with the Pilgrims, Pompey, Posh and the Bantams all hoping they slip up.

Fans of Burton, Bolton, Walsall and Northampton might not agree but there's little better at this stage of the season than a relegation shootout.

The Brewers host the Wanderers today knowing that realistically anything other than a win will leave them heading back to League One.

Meanwhile, a Wanderers win could not only see them stay up but could potentially relegate both Burton and Barnsley.

In League One, Walsall host Northampton knowing that a win could send the Cobblers down and massively boost their own survival hopes, while a win for the visitors could lift them out of the relegation zone - at the Saddlers' expense.

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the table, it probably hasn't escaped your attention that Sunderland have already been relegated to League One, meaning there are two places still to be settled.

Burton will join the Black Cats if they lose to Bolton. A draw with the struggling Wanderers, who are also in danger of being relegated, would mean the Brewers will be all but down.

Barnsley will be relegated if they fail to beat Brentford and Bolton win.

  4. The race for the Championship play-offs: Two from three?published at 14:14 British Summer Time 28 April 2018

Top spot in the Championship may have been sewn up a long time ago but the race for second and the play-off places is still very much on.

We've taken an in-depth look at the runners and riders for the two remaining spots in the Championship and you can give that a read by clicking here.

Middlesbrough, Derby and Millwall are very much leading the chase but with just two games of the season left seven teams are still in contention to battle it out for a place in the Premier League.

The picture is slightly clearer in League One where it'll be two from six, and an awful lot more straightforward in League Two, where there are three teams in contention for two places.

It's a party atmosphere at Molineux, where champions Wolves can go past the 100-point mark with victory over mid-table Sheffield Wednesday.

Their final home game of a superb season will also see the trophy presentation in front of a sell-out crowd.

We'll bring you news of any goals from the Black Country, as with every other Championship game this afternoon.

    FT: Fulham 2-1 Sunderland

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic points in the direction he believes the team are headed...

For 17 minutes last night Cardiff City fans will have believed that their team was just one win away from a Premier League return.

However, after going a goal behind to already-relegated Sunderland through Joel Asoro's tidy finish the Craven Cottage side battled back to take all three points and go back up to second.

Goals from Lucas Piazon and Aleksandar Mitrovic, his 12th in 13 games for the Whites, mean that whatever happens in Cardiff's game at Hull City the battle for second will got to the final day.

It's a very different situation for Sunderland of course...

After almost nine months of hard-fought action some teams could see their season come to a premature conclusion today.

If last week was all about teams going up, with both Wigan and Luton securing promotion, then we're all about teams going the other way today.

Depending on results we could have no less than five relegations on this penultimate matchday of the season.

    How are your nerves?

Good afternoon and welcome to live text coverage of Saturday's EFL action.
