MK Dons were officially relegated from League One with a 2-0 defeat at home to play-off chasing Scunthorpe.

Their caretaker boss Keith Millen said he was "hurting" as his side dropped to the fourth tier of English football for the first time since 2008.

"This is the first time I've been involved in a relegation as a coach or manager," he told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"I didn't come here expecting that [relegation] to be on my CV. We need time to reflect and learn from what has gone on.

"Everything is here to improve. This is as low as it's got to be now. This club will learn from the mistakes that have been made."

Reading missed the chance to pull themselves to safety - thanks to a chastening 4-0 defeat at home to Ipswich Town.

The Royals are just two points clear of the relegation zone with a game at Cardiff to come.

Boss Paul Clement told BBC Radio Berkshire: "The first thing I have to say is a big apology to our supporters, that they have to come and see that performance today. I don't think, as a manager, I've ever had to stand in front of the media and explain a performance of that nature before.

"It's quite clear - and I know this and the players know this - that it's shameful and embarrassing."

  4. We played with fear - Monkpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 28 April 2018

    FT: QPR 3-1 Birmingham City

Birmingham City could have secured safety today with victory over QPR - but a 3-1 defeat means their fight for survival will go down to the final day for a second successive season.

Blues boss Garry Monk told BBC WM: "Today, looking at the game and how it was, was the first time I've seen it - we played with fear. We haven't been doing that and it was very surprising in terms of, we prepared exactly the same.

"We've been taking this challenge on and trying to meet it head-on. And I saw fear today in the team.

"That's what pressure does at times. I think when you're playing with that fear, you're kind of hoping your teammate does something for you. You don't quite do what you need to do at your maximum. I just don't think we handled the pressure and the fear of that situation well enough, and that caused us to not perform how we've been performing."

  5. We have to keep believing - Moraispublished at 18:22 British Summer Time 28 April 2018

Barnsley manager Jose Morais reacts to their win at Brentford.

Goals from Kieffer Moore and Oli McBurnie gave Barnsley a 2-0 win over Brentford to move the Tykes out of the relegation zone going into the final day.

A win over Derby next week will secure their Championship status.

Boss Jose Morais told BBC Radio Sheffield: "The team showed what I expected them to show. I was willing the team to really show their capacity, because I really believe they have a lot of potential, a lot of quality and a lot of capacity.

"The seeds are there, and this will come out. Today, part of this came, and I believe there is still much more of this to come.

"I'm a believer and I'm very positive, and we have to keep going and keep believing in ourselves. I believe in their quality, and no matter what will happen, I will always believe they have the quality."

    Erm, that's a yellow.

Shaun Williams clips Mo Besic in full flight and out comes the card.

    Cynical from the Millwall man.

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Millwall

Millwall create their best chance of the half, but it's superb defending by Daniel Ayala.

Steve Morison flicks on a corner, it's heading towards Jake Cooper at the far stick but Ayala gets a foot in and pokes it behind.

One thing Neil Harris will be pleased with is his side's dedication at the back.

Stewart Downing tries to get another shot away, again it's blocked by a diving Millwall body inside the box.

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Millwall

I wouldn't want to be in the Millwall dressing room at half-time.

Neil Harris' side have created absolutely nothing in this first half.

Harris is pacing up and down the touchline - seething.

What a fantastic block from Millwall defender Shaun Hutchinson.

Middlesbrough break forward at pace, Stewart Downing is released into the box, tries to get his shot away but Hutchinson slides in and puts his body on the line.

    Brilliant from the Lions man.

Adama Traore has to look up there.

The Boro man sprints forward, Britt Assombalonga is in acres of space ahead of him but Traore goes the wrong way and is tackled.

    Goalscorer Assombalonga is furious.

    Ah Mo, if only!

Muhamed Besic goes on a fine run towards the Millwall area, finds some room but miscues his shot high and wide.

It would have been a beauty for the Everton loanee - if it wasn't 10 yards off target.

Boro's giant centre-back Daniel Ayala pulls free at the back post from a corner but can't direct his header on target.

Still just the one shot on target.

Middlesbrough's Mo Besic weaves his way down the left, finds Stewart Downing on the edge of the box, but the former England winger skews his effort well, well wide.

Midway through this first half and just Britt Assombalonga's goalscoring effort on target.

Millwall haven't looked threatening so far.
