  2. The club that went 145 years without being relegatedpublished at 22:32 British Summer Time 23 April 2018

Gainsborough Trinity had two long-standing records to speak of prior to Saturday's National League North visit to Telford.

In the 145 years since they were first formed in 1873, they had never been promoted and never been relegated.

But that all changed when, after being 2-0 up at relegation rivals Telford, they shipped three goals in 15 minutes - and that condemned them to the drop to the Northern Premier League.

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez, speaking to Sky Sports: "We play as a team. The style, the type of football was not amazing but they won and that was it.

"We had two or three chances. I thought we were very close (to a point). I am pleased with the effort of the the players but this final pass in the final third can make the difference.

"We are really strong. Just to stay in the Premier League was the target and we are really pleased with that. We have to be ready for the next game."

Tomos Evans: People having a pop about Sam Alladyce, about playing style. The fact is, he was brought into a team fighting relegation in Nov. He’s a stabilising manager, so calls for him to be sacked at this point is completely backwards. Summer may be the saving grace.

  9. 'You can't knock our football'published at 22:18 British Summer Time 23 April 2018

    Everton 1-0 Newcastle

    Everton

Everton boss Sam Allardyce on Sky Sports when asked about fan criticism.

"If we lose next week they won't be there.

"If we keep winning we keep getting better. I think eighth in the league compared to fifth from bottom tells you we're getting better.

"What was wrong with our style today? We dominated the game, out-passed the opposition. You have to be patient.

"You can't knock our football. You can knock some of the passing that goes astray buy you can't knock me for that, I don't pass the ball. We try and limit those mistakes every week."

  10. 'We held on and did the job'published at 22:16 British Summer Time 23 April 2018

    Everton 1-0 Newcastle

    Everton

Theo Walcott speaking to Sky Sports: "It's very satisfying. We were under a lot of pressure at the end but we held on and did the job.

"I have to say Seamus Coleman's defensive header at the end was just as good as my goal. Everyone did their defensive jobs. Everyone was behind us and it was good to get the three points after some disappointing results.

"I have scored a lot of goals on the left side and sometimes you can be isolated up front by yourself so I think you'll see me on the left a lot more now. I'm pretty sure about that.

"It's been hit and miss this season but it' just getting to know the balance and the way we want to play. You expect to be higher up in the table but it's just been one of those seasons."

On Arsene Wenger: "He is a fantastic man, a fantastic manager and I can't thank him enough for what he has done for me. I want to work hard for Sam now. It was a well-fought battle tonight.

    Everton 1-0 Newcastle

    Everton

Everton boss Sam Allardyce on Sky Sports: "Apart from the last 10 minutes we dominated the game. There was only going to be one winner. We didn't score the second goal and they put us under pressure in last five minutes and we defended well.

"We go into Huddersfield next week to see if we can carry on this run. We've moved up the league one place.

"We're on track and going in the right direction. Well done Theo Walcott - three goals now as well as his assists. It's a game-changing winner."

If you need a lesson in how not to pass to a teammate, just re-watch that match. It lacked quality from both sides, was littered with mistakes and was a pretty scrappy affair.

But Sam Allardyce will take the three points happily.
