  2. 'Both teams have been poor'published at 20:49 British Summer Time 23 April 2018

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Both teams have been poor in the final third, Newcastle especially have had poor on the counter attack.

If I was Rafa, I would say 'defend the same, work as hard as you are but show me some more quality in the final third.'

Everton need to be brave, get people into more advanced positions. Morgan Schneiderlin needs to get on the ball and dictate play and let Rooney get closer to the striker.

Twenty years ago, Everton and Newcastle played out a 0-0 draw at Goodison Park. We were hoping for more entertainment tonight but so far it's not been a thriller. Can you name the three missing men from Newcastle’s lineup that day?

  4. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 23 April 2018

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

Wayne Rooney slides in to win the ball back in midfield before slipping it to Theo Walcott, who comes driving into the box from the right.

It's a decent effort from the winger but it's always going wide and high. And that's the end of the proceedings in the first half...

Not much to shout about really.

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

Leighton Baines drives into the penalty area, cuts it back through the legs of Jonjo Shelvey but the ball misses out two Everton players before it's cleared away from Newcastle.

That was a great chance but it sums up the first half. No end product from either side.

Andrew: That's the Perez most Newcastle fans know and love to hate. The odd tap in doesn't absolve him of his normally poor play for the majority of most matches.

Islam Slimani has space to run into and he does, charging through the middle, before he's surrounded by four Everton players.

The Blues got back quickly and it was well defended in the end.

Andy: Anyone questioning why we want Allardyce gone, should be watching this match. Another 45 minutes likely to end without a shot on target! Dire

  10. 'Sloppy passing costing Newcastlepublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 23 April 2018

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

All half, Newcastle in the final third are making the wrong decision or the wrong pass.

Ayoze Perez has one of the easiest passes to make to find Slimani.

In the final third sloppy passes have cost them opportunities.

    Oh that's awful!

Kenedy puts pressure on Jordan Pickford and the keeper's kick goes straight to Ayoze Perez. All the midfielder has to do is slip it into Islam Slimani to make it a one-on-one situation but Perez' pass is terrible and it's a chance wasted.

  14. CLOSE!published at 35 mins

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

Michael Keane has his headed effort blocked and he couldn't get the ball out from under his feet quick enough to get a shot away from the resulting corner.

The ball is then headed back in from Keane towards the back post but Phil Jagielka can't direct it goalwards.

Golden opportunity for the centre-back and he knows it.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Theo Walcott link-up well to earn a corner for Everton. Wayne Rooney plays it into the middle but it's defended clear by Newcastle before Jonjo Shelvey is penalised for a foul on Idrissa Gueye.

    Bit soft that.

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

Does this count as a shot on target?

Ayoze Perez looks to receive the ball back from Mohamed Diame but it sort of hits his shin in the box and dribbles towards Jordan Pickford.

It probably doesn't count, but it was on target...

  18. Postpublished at 30 mins

Still no shot on target from either side. Half an hour gone...

  19. Postpublished at 29 mins

Jordan Pickford has played well so far. He comes out strongly to pick a dangerous ball out from the air with confidence.
