    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

Cenk Tusan finds space on the right with a good, dynamic run but his cut-back into Theo Walcott is cut out just in time by DeAndre Yedlin.

That was an important interception but the Everton forward was ready to pounce.

Seeing Rooney pass the ball to Walcott is like when you've played Football Manager for 5 seasons straight and the game simulation has made some odd choices regarding transfers. Still seems strange. (And yes, other Football management games are available).

  3. 'Newcastle more capable of scoring'published at 20:25 British Summer Time 23 April 2018

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Not much has happened in front of goal but I think Newcastle will be the happier of the two teams, they look the most capable of forging a goal, likely on the counter-attack.

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

Everton play some nice, quick passes on the edge of the box but Idrissa Gueye's sloppy pass is cut out and Newcastle can break.

They do through Ayoze Perez but he can't gather in the return pass back into him when he runs into the box as Michael Keane's presence does enough to put him off.

Kyle: Rubbish game so far between 2 midtable sides. That said as a Newcastle fan I'm delighted that we are midtable after flirting with relegation for much of this season.

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

Ayoze Perez has space and time in the middle of the pitch so fans scream "shoot" and he does.

But it's a terrible effort. It's probably still rising now...

  7. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

Everton have seen lots of the ball in the opening 21 minutes (67% of it to be precise). But Newcastle (heatmap on the right) are well organised in defence and have kept the ball relatively clear of their goal mouth.

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

The team had a tough time, and it is great for Everton to have Seamus Coleman, Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka back.

Jagielka has missed a large part of the season, having those three back with Michael Keane in there is a boost and results have improved.

  9. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

Theo Walcott runs straight into Mohamed Diame but the Newcastle midfielder's ball down the line towards Islam Slimani is poor and it's straight out for an Everton throw-in.

  10. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

Yannick Bolasie is involved in the build-up before Seamus Coleman's cross comes back to him on the edge of the box.

His strike is blocked by Jonjo Shelvey but that was nice from Everton. They are building pressure here.

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

Wayne Rooney puts in a great tackle to win the ball back for Everton before Theo Walcott does well to turn away and retain possession.

But Newcastle are well organised and there's no way through for the hosts.

Islam Slimani makes a good run in behind the defence and Kenedy almost picks him out but the pass is a little heavy-weighted and it allows Jordan Pickford time to come out and sweep the ball away.

  13. 'Shelvey's got the ammunition'published at 20:11 British Summer Time 23 April 2018

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

If England are looking for a passer, I'm sure Gareth Southgate is thinking about him [Jonjo Shelvey], but whether he thinks his temperament is perfect I don't know. He's done well, it's whether you can trust him in tournament football.

Certainly he has got the quality, his passing range is fantastic if you are going to counter-attack teams - he's got the kind of ammunition you need.

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

Kenedy has the ball in midfield and is looking to set Newcastle on their way with a counter attack but he's pulled back deliberately by Morgan Schneiderlin and stopped in his tracks.

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

The ball bobbles around the Newcastle box as Everton are able to put a few crosses in but the visitors win possession and look to break forward quickly.

Seamus Coleman does extremely well to get his body in the way and block a run down the left before Jordan Pickford is able to clear the ball out for a throw-in.

  16. 'Newcastle forcing Everton back'published at 20:08 British Summer Time 23 April 2018

    Everton 0-0 Newcastle

    Leon Osman

Newcastle are very well organised, they are denying Newcastle any space, any time Everton get the ball in their half the pressure is forcing them back.

Fourteen-year-old Everton fan Jack McLinden has become part of Premier League history.

He suffers from multiple health conditions and has severely reduced mobility but was able to savour the experience of joining his heroes on the pitch thanks to the telepresence robot AV1.

The unit was carried on to the field by Everton captain Phil Jagielka, to give the Liverpool teenager an unforgettable Goodison Park experience.

Everton are just keeping possession at the moment. Phil Jagielka slips on the surface but there's no player around to cause any damage.

The ball is then played forward towards Theo Walcott but Newcastle quickly swarm him and the Blues aren't able to create anything.

Theo Walcott runs through the middle with pace before going down in the box. He thinks he should have a penalty but referee Bobby Madley waves it on.
