Real AP: The key for Liverpool will be Firmino and his movement to open space for Salah and Mane. Also how can Hendo and Milner lock down the mid and let Ox free. Lovren needs a big game too.

    Robbie Fowler
Former Liverpool striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I rate Edin Dzeko very highly, I am surprised City let him go. He has got a lot more in the locker that just being a tall striker. He can score goals out of the blue, he has scored massively important goals, like he did for City.

Scoobert: The thought of Lovren & Dzeko going head to head is making me nervous, given how Lovren was bullied about by Romelu Lukaku in the defeat by Man Utd not so long ago.

Roma have won just one of their 19 European away matches in England (D7 L11), although that win was at Anfield in February 2001 in the Uefa Cup.

Current manager Eusebio di Francesco was an unused sub in that game.

A touch of class from Roma as they took time out from their preparations for this game to pay their respects to the 96 Liverpool fans who lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster.

  6. 'Klopp won't allow complacency'published at 18:59 British Summer Time 24 April 2018

    Liverpool v Roma (19:45 BST)

    Robbie Fowler
Former Liverpool striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is a different pressure for Liverpool, I don’t think the manager will allow players to be complacent. Not many gave them a chance against Manchester City, the same with Roma when they were 4-1 down. As much as Liverpool on paper are favourites there will be no complacency. They won’t allow that.

Strong Liverpool lineup, going for a 2 - 0 LFC win. But just look at the bench... one injury to our starting 11 and I see a big chink in our armour, especially if we miss any of the big 3 for the 2nd leg/potential final.

  10. 'Game will be won in midfield'published at 18:50 British Summer Time 24 April 2018

    Liverpool v Roma (19:45 BST)

    Robbie Savage
Ex-Leicester City & Wales midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

It is important Roma don’t play a high line, important they sit deep with the threat of Liverpool’s front three. I think the midfield battle will be important. Strootman, De Rossi, Nainggolan against Oxlade-Chamberlain, Henderson and Milner, it will be a good battle in there, that is where the game is going to be won and lost.

Both teams are back to full strength after resting players at the weekend - five changes for Liverpool, six for Roma.

Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dejan Lovren and Andrew Robertson come in for Liverpool. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both played in the 2-2 draw with West Brom and keep their places.

For Roma, ex-Manchester City pair Edin Dzeko and Aleksandar Kolarov start - as do captain Daniele de Rossi, highly rated youngster Cengiz Under and Alessandro Florenzi and Juan Jesus. Liverpool will have to watch all-action midfielder Radja Nainggolan closely - he scored in the 3-0 win over SPAL and starts on the left side of a front three.

  13. 'Nothing we can't do'published at 18:39 British Summer Time 24 April 2018

    Liverpool v Roma (19:45 BST)

    James Horncastle
BBC Radio 5 live's Euro Leagues Football Show

Liverpool are the team going into this under pressure as they’re so close to the final now. Their fans believe and expect them to get there. This is a club who are much more part of European football’s nobility than Roma are.

With Roma, the belief that has forged within this team should not be underestimated.

Liverpool think they have a sense of destiny playing the team they beat in 1984, that they have won this competition several times. Roma now look at it and think ‘if we can come back from 4-1 down to Barcelona, there’s nothing we can’t do. Nobody expected us to be here so we’ll just for it’.

Di Francesco is unwilling to compromise on his ideals we I think they will stay true to themselves at Anfield, press high, play with a high line and compress the space.

    Listen to the show here.

Pepe: I’ve asked 3 friends for the score. 1 with no knowledge, 1 with intermediate knowledge and another with no knowledge of football. All have said 2-0 to Liverpool. Surely scientific enough just to give the win to Liverpool and forget about the next nervy 90 mins?

Sure might as well send everyone home now...

Growing up my dad always encouraged me to cheer on the remaining English clubs that were playing in Europe, whoever they were. As a Chelsea fan I still do this and I fully expect Liverpool to beat Roma tonight by a couple of goals. Not sure if any Liverpool fans would cheer on my team though.
