Saudi Arabia v Egypt (15:00 BST)

So where did it go so wrong for Egypt?

They finished above Ghana in qualifying yet their first appearance on the world stage for 28 years has gone badly.

The Pharaohs conceded an 89th minute winner in their first Group A game against Uruguay before being swept aside 3-1 by hosts Russia.

Will they be back in 2022?

Will Saudi Arabia score a goal before leaving Russia?

They have managed just two shots on target at this tournament in defeats to Russia (5-0) and Uruguay (1-0).

There have only been 11 previous occasions of teams failing to score at a World Cup finals tournament in three or more games, with Honduras and Algeria the last teams to do this in 2010.

Mohamed Salah's injury has completely overshadowed Egypt's time in Russia. I can understand why he gave it a go, but it would probably have been better if they had just said that he was not going to be fit, because I don't think he was.

Neither of these teams have carried a goal threat and, if you don't have that in this tournament, then you can just forget it.

Saudi Arabia v Egypt (15:00 BST)

Egypt's key player Mohamed Salah starts despite an initial tweet, later deleted, from the national association stating that he would not be in the starting XI.

There had been reports, later denied by Egypt's FA, that the Liverpool forward was on the verge of quitting the national team as a result of criticism over his appearance with Chechnya leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

And goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary also starts - at 45 years and 161 days he becomes the oldest player to play at the World Cup. He is the only change to the starting XI.

Saudi Arabia make three changes to the XI that started in the 1-0 defeat by Uruguay.

Goalkeeper Yasser Al Mosailem replaces Al-Ahli's Mohammed Al-Owais. All Nassr defender Omar Hawsawi is in for Ali Albulayhi and Al Ahli's Housain Al-Moghawi replaces Taiseer Jaber Al-Jassam in midfield.

Full team news coming up but there was confusion a little earlier when Egypt posted the above line-up on their official Twitter feed without Mohamed Salah.

The tweet was quickly deleted with another line-up (below) which then included the Liverpool forward.

I can confirm Salah is out on the pitch warming up with the rest of his team-mates. He's definitely playing.

Hands up if you're making World Cup history today!

At the age of 45, Egypt's Essam El Hadary is the oldest player to take part in a World Cup finals.

The goalkeeper, veteran of 150-plus caps, will comfortably break Faryd Mondragon's record. The Colombian, also a goalkeeper, was 43 years and three days old when he played in a group match against Japan four years ago.

El Hadary is older than three coaches at the World Cup including Senegal's 42-year-old Aliou Cisse and Serbia's 44-year-old Mladen Krstajic. Belgium's Roberto Martinez is also 44.

The Egyptian made his international debut 22 years ago - four months after England boss Gareth Southgate won his first cap.

"My age is 45, but for me, this is just a number on paper," said El Hadary.

"My father, who passed away, told me that his dream was to watch me playing at a World Cup and I want to make my dad proud."

One of the secrets to his prolonged playing career is spending up to 20 minutes a day in an ice bath.

El Hadary plays in Saudi Arabia with Al-Taawoun.

Day 12 of the World Cup and it's the start of the third and final round of group games when all four teams kick-off at the same time.

It's supposed to be a gripping occasion as teams battle for a spot in the knockout stage. Sadly, Group A is pretty much done and dusted.

Russia and Uruguay are through while Saudi Arabia and Egypt are on the first plane out of Volgograd - and the World Cup - after this game.
