    Peru v Denmark (17:00 BST)

Notably, the whole Denmark side waited at the end of the tunnel so they could walk out as one.

I like that kind of togetherness.

  2. Players tuning up...published at 16:19 British Summer Time 16 June 2018

    Peru v Denmark (17:00 BST)

Peru's goalkeepers are the first to emerge to go through their drills, closely followed by Kasper Schmeichel at the other end.

There's a healthy smattering of fans in the stands already even though there are 40 minutes until the off. Here come the rest of the Denmark players, a couple of them polishing off bananas for some late energy input.

The last time Peru qualified for the World Cup, the Ford Sierra was hot off the production line.

Those of you around in 1982 will recall the motor being a hit with dads on your street.

    Great times.

    Peru v Denmark (17:00 BST)

Some breaking team news and Paolo Guerrero does not start up front for Peru. He of course has had an ongoing saga with authorities over a drug ban (more on that later). The 34-year-old will watch from the bench as 33-year-old Jefferson Farfan leads the line.

This statue in the background is meant to be Farfan. Not sure what the Lokomotiv Moscow man would think of it.

    Peru v Denmark (17:00 BST)

Both teams have just arrived at the Mordovia Arena and I can tell you that in leaving their respective buses a lot of them had those white ear phones in with no wire. You know the ones. For me they are a somewhat dubious look.

  6. Party poopers...published at 15:59 British Summer Time 16 June 2018

    Peru v Denmark (17:00 BST)

And of course, Denmark will care little about the Peruvian fairytale.

They have of course already broken a few hearts to get here, notably Irish ones when they thumped Republic of Ireland 5-1 in a play-off.

Ricardo Gareca has guided Peru to the biggest stage, sending the country's people into a frenzy and tempting an estimated 50,000 to make the trip to Russia.

Remarkably, they are now 11th in Fifa's world rankings, a place above their opponents today.

When you've waited 36 years for a World Cup, why shouldn't you throw on the mad wig, grab some big ears and party like it's 1982...
