    Peru 0-1 Denmark

The pressure builds. I've been properly impressed by Andre Carrillo and it's his fine work down the left which brings the chance about.

The Benfica man crosses to the back stick and Paolo Guerrero is about to nod home only for Yussuf Poulsen to head into the air when leaping right under his own crossbar.

What a stunning piece of defending. Proper defending, like the old days, when men were men and all that.

A floated ball into the box creates a scramble. It's partially cleared but Peru will load it back in there. In she comes, up gets Alberto Rodríguez with a fine header across goal.... just wide with bodies racing in to try to tap home.

Decent effort from Guerrero, There's not a lot of pace on the cross he has to try and generate all the power.

    A big moment.

Paolo Guerrero is coming on. He's the toast of Peru, a national celebrity and he very nearly missed this World Cup after testing positive for cocaine.

He's 34 years of age and what a story it will be if he finds the net here. His first involvement sees him lay a ball off, dart into the box and head at goal - held.

Peru show great character and almost hit back instantly.

Edison Flores is found on the left side of the area and shoots across goal, forcing a one-handed save by Kasper Schmeichel.

Great ball to release Christian Eriksen, he puts a well weighed pass to Poulsen. Not the best first touch but finishes well. Peru cut open by two passes, it's a great goal.

GOAL - Peru 0-1 Denmarkpublished at 59 mins

    Yussuf Poulsen

We have a breakthrough. Yussuf Poulsen races away and slides on his knees in celebration, screaming to the heavens.

For once Christian Eriksen breaks free in midfield and in a central area he has options. It's two versus three and his pass is into the stride of Poulsen, who takes a poor touch but has the time to fire home at the keeper's near post.

Peru are hurting, no one more than Christian Cueva.

The crowd are hugely excited as Christian Cueva gets into the box down the left. His lifted cross falls to Andre Carrillo who falls over but Edison Flores is on hand to fall over himself while poking the ball wide.

The flag was up, Cuevas had strayed, but it was a comedy moment with both Carrillo and Flores melting like ice in the sun in the area.

  12. Eyes to the right...published at 18:15 British Summer Time 16 June 2018

    Peru 0-0 Denmark

Here you can see how Denmark are favouring the right flank, with over half their attacks down that side.

Any goal could come down that side but should they be varying it more?

Denmark central defender has touched the ball 51 times, that's 11 more than Christian Eriksen, who they would want to see on the ball far more.

He takes a free-kick near the area but the delivery is poor.

As the touch map shows, much of his work is down the right side. My guess is they'd like him on the ball in a more central area.

Denmark were maybe over cautious in the first half and they gave a lot of respect to this Peru side. They are not moving the ball quick enough and everything has been played in front of Peru. It has all been quite comfortable for the South Americans up until now.

Jefferson Farfan and Andreas Christensen in a foot race for the ball and it's a key opening with just the keeper to beat. Farfan gets there but Christensen gets his block in. Half a chance.

At the other end a low cross from the left sees Luis Advíncula slide in to deny Christian Eriksen in the area. Timely.

Denmark have to keep pushing, play quicker between the lines, they have the quality. Peru leave gaps and Eriksen needs to take care of it.

No changes at half time. Denmark have what is a 4-2-3-1 shape. Peru we thought would be the same but they move more freely and the inter-changing makes what they are offering a bit more varied.
