    Tunisia 0-1 England

Raheem Sterling loses the ball on the edge of the area and Kyle Walker was well forwards, a moment of concern but England had it covered. They gegenpress the life out of the midfield and snap it back.

It was offside, but Raheem Sterling managed to miss this sitter earlier. The winger will not want to view that again.

Gareth Southgate must be absolutely delighted. England have looked very, very good so far.

Early days and all that but come on, it's been so bad for so long, England fans should be allowed to enjoy a good display when they see one.

Raheem Sterling is being bothered by the insects.

    Tunisia 0-1 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

I think Gareth was hoping they'd put a performance in first up, and that's what they have done. England could have been 4-0 up by now and Tunisia have hardly had a kick.

Lyn: Sad for the Tunisian goalkeeper. That's his tournament over after 10 minutes.

Peter: Feel sorry for the keeper, that was an incredible save.

Mike: Got to feel sorry for the keeper. It was a great save from Stones initially and now he's going off injured. Unlucky fella :(

    Tunisia 0-1 England

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Volgograd Arena

Pretty much every England player had stressed the need to make a fast start as they seek their first win in the opening game of a major tournament since the 2006 World Cup in Germany. They could not have been much faster than this - it has been breathtaking and Tunisia are currently in all sorts of trouble.

Slick, incisive. Exciting. Kyle Walker finds Kieran Trippier breaking down the right in space, his cutback is a very good one but at the same time inbetween Harry Kane and Dele Alli. The ball springs loose to Jordan Henderson 25 yards out and he whistles a lovely hit straight at the replacement goalkeeper.

Jodmos: 1-0. So now they'll revert to type and sit back.

David: Let's not get too excited. England also scored first against Iceland, remember?

  9. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Tunisia 0-1 England

England look like they know what they're doing in and out of possession. Yes that should be elementary but believe me, it often isn't the case.

    At all.

  10. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Tunisia 0-1 England

A very long stoppage for that change of goalkeepers, England won't want to lose that early fluency. Test the new keeper early?

    Daniel: It's coming home!!

    OJ: Great start by England!

Rick: If there is anyone you don’t want to leave unmanned from a set piece, it’s Harry Kane!

I said the danger would come from set pieces. Great first header by Stones and Kane follows up to finish it off. England have dominated so far and it's 1-0.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 15 mins

    Tunisia 0-1 England

Mouez Hassen is in tears as he comes off. You have to feel for the young Tunisian keeper. He made two brilliant saves in his brief time but he's off with that shoulder injury.

It's going to be Farouk ben Mustapha to come on.

  15. 'Kane the predator'published at 19:13 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Tunisia 0-1 England

    Martin Keown

Magnificent ball in, Stones attacks it beautifully, but Kane the predator is there. It's a great save by the keeper from Stones' header but Kane is there.

  16. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Tunisia 0-1 England

The keeper is down holding his shoulder again. That could be game over already - he made a fine save for the goal.

What an opening spell from England though. And a huge boost for Harry Kane.

GOAL - Tunisia 0-1 Englandpublished at 11 mins

    Harry Kane

Totally deserved! John Stones is left utterly free from an Ashley Young corner, Mouez Hassen makes a wonderful one-handed save but Harry Kane is free to lash in from close range!

His first goal in a tournament and he has now scored in every game he has started as captain!

That was very close to being over the line from Stones' original header...

Tom: Easily the most exciting start to a game I've watched this world cup

Will: We've always been able to pass the ball out from the back; it just used to be Neville to Beckham...Beckham back to Neville. Repeat.

Jordan: Come on England u can do this

Mike: Great start. Could do with some composure when shooting though!

Martin: Can't spurn gilt-edged chances like those at this level. Should be 2-up and cruising within 5 minutes

Anon: I've been off my seat 3 times already, its only been 5 minutes! The players look so FREE!
