    Tunisia v England (19:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on BBC One

This is a banana skin for England but I don't foresee any slip-ups for Gareth Southgate's side.

I like the way they are set up and they have players on the bench who can change the game if they are needed.

The heat in Volgograd could be a factor and I am sure there will be some nerves too, but I still think England will win.

    Prediction: 0-2

Sports correspondent Natalie Pirks tackles insects in World Cup stadium

Scorching temperatures and cloudless skies will greet England when they arrive on the banks of the Volga River to face Tunisia in their opening World Cup game.

The wide avenues near the stadium have been closed off and have become pedestrianised, the atmosphere outside here more akin to a holiday than a crucial World Cup game as fans and locals take a leisurely stroll in the sun.

One unexpected complication has been the plague of small insects that appears to have hit Volgograd.

We left the stadium at 9pm local time last night (kick-off time tonight) and there was an extraordinary amount of insects in the air. It will be interesting to see if this effects both sets of players and if any measures have been taken to combat it.

Sam Allardyce discusses his battle with getting over losing his job as the England manager

Yep, the World Cup qualifiers may have started with Sam Allardyce in charge but there's been plenty of wine under the bridge since then.

Exepectations, I would say, were at an all-time low six months or so ago.

    But now. Now?

Gareth Southgate's grasp of team selection, tactical set-up and squad/media integration has won a lot of hearts and minds.

All they have to do now is win a few matches...

For five days now millions of England fans have tuned in to the greatest show on turf, beamed live from the stadia of Russia to their TVs, tablets, smartphones and smartspeakers.

They've seen Messi mess up, Ronaldo rocket one in and Neymar do not much.

Germany looked gutless, Russia ruthless, France as fickle as ever.

It's been an entertaining start to proceedings but we've yet to see a side truly stand out.

And now, after years of England woe on the big stage, it's time for Gareth Southgate's quiet revolution to kick off.
