    Tunisia 0-0 England

Tunisian possession for the first real time. They shank it out, it's been a nervous start from the Eagles of Carthage.

  2. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Tunisia 0-0 England

Fakhreddine Ben Youssey goes down after a whack in the chops from Ashley Young but that's accidental. Kyle Walker then skims a long pass out wide but Dele Alli can't gather it in.

  3. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Tunisia 0-0 England

This might already be the best England performance in the last 12 years. Can it now.

  4. 'So quick from England'published at 19:06 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Tunisia 0-0 England

    Martin Keown
    Former England defender in Russia

Great play from England so quick. It was marginally offside but great to see players getting in the box. Not the best of finishes of course.

  5. 'That's two big chances'published at 19:06 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Tunisia 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

Great reverse ball by Alli. Lingard does everything right but Sterling scuffs it wide and he doesn't know which foot to hit it with. That's two big chances for England.

  6. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Tunisia 0-0 England

Quite the start. The Tunisia goalkeeper Mouez Hassen needed treatment after being caught by Jesse Lingard but he's OK.

    England should be ahead.

  7. CLOSE!published at 4 mins

    Tunisia 0-0 England

What a chance! England could and should be two up, but they are slicing through Tunisia at will!

They break the lines, Jesse Lingard is clear, he squares it for Raheem Sterling who somehow puts it wide from just a few yards out!

He didn't know which foot to go with and it scuffs past the post!

  8. 'Lingard should score'published at 19:04 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Tunisia 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

That's a great ball by Jordan Henderson before Dele Alli fizzes it in behind. I know it's early in the game but Jesse Lingard should score from there. Tunisia take risks and England have to go and press them.

  9. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Tunisia 0-0 England

That was a golden chance for a very early goal for England. They have to take the positives from that...

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 2 mins

    Tunisia 0-0 England

Almost 1-0! Jordan Henderson's ball over the top is a good one, Dele Alli's cross is cut out but he finds Jesse LIngard at the second attempt and his shot is well saved by the goalkeeper's legs!

From the corner Harry Maguire's header is touched over - offside though.

    Great chance for Lingard!

    Tunisia 0-0 England

Kieran Trippier's ball over the top is too long for Dele Alli and it runs on to the keeper. England have set up exactly as advertised as Harry Kane hassles the keeper into an error.

    Tunisia 0-0 England

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Volgograd Arena

England's goalkeepers really are a tight team. Jack Butland may have been beaten to the number one slot by Jordan Pickford but he has just put him through his warm-up and given him a big bear hug seconds before kick-off.

    Chris Waddle

This is it. This is where we start. It has been difficult for some of the bigger teams to get off to a winning start but I'm sure England would like to do that tonight.

  17. No VAR pleasepublished at 18:58 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

Coin toss time. A reminder that this is Jordan Pickford's competitive debut as the players hug and backslap their way across the turf.

A shot of the VAR team - let's hope we don't need them tonight.

    Anthems!

The lyrics of Humat al Hima were written by Egyptian Mustafa Sadik el-Rafii in the 1930s. A famous Egyptian composer Mohamad Abdel Wahab, who had already arranged the music for other nations’ national anthems, subsequently added the music. Aboul-Qacem Echebbi wrote two additional verses, which were added to the original poem.

Having only previously been used as the national anthem for a brief spell, it officially replaced the former anthem “Ala Khallidi” in November 1987, which was closely associated with the government of the former President Habib Bourguiba, who had been deposed from office in the same year.

    Phil Neville
Former England & Man Utd defender on BBC Radio 5 live

It's a big moment for Harry Kane. I want to see us play with the freedom Gareth wants us to play with. He said to them in the week 'do your country proud' and we're all going to support them.
