Harry Kane can deliver, he had a tough time at the Euros in 2016, was asked to take corners, and I'm sure he would have something say about that now he's a bit more experienced. I'm delighted for him to get the armband, he needs to lead by example.

Matt: All this talk about "no expectations". I'm sat on my sofa fully expecting an inspired England performance that'll make the world take notice. No pressure Gareth.

Alan: Easy to say from outside looking in, but England will walk this tonight. Fully confident of that 3-0. There you go, relax and enjoy it

Alex: I may regret this but *inhales* COME ON ENGLAND!!!

  9. 'Three points will give them confidence'published at 18:47 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Tunisia v England (19:00 BST)

    Phil Neville
Former England & Man Utd defender on BBC Radio 5 live

We're playing against a Tunisia side where we are likely to have more of the ball, so he's picked Alli and Sterling to bring pace and creativity. Gareth wants to win the game and three points will give this young team confidence. A draw would create nerves moving forward.

I did not know that Harry Kane was somewhat of a star goalkeeper as a kid!

  11. 'Cannot underestimate Tunisia'published at 18:44 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Tunisia v England (19:00 BST)

    Frank Lampard
    Former England & Chelsea midfielder

The good stuff I saw from Tunisia in their warm-up games is that they are aggressive across the midfield, send people out to press. We cannot underestimate them, if we lose patience they can hit us on the counter attack.

Relaxed, cracking a few jokes, laughing along - Gareth Southgate was ice cool in his pre-match chat.

Harry Kane by the way is the youngest player to captain England at a World Cup.

  13. England's recent record...published at 18:41 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

...is absolutely awful, to be frank.

If you're aged 18 or under there's a good chance you won't even remember the last time England scored twice in a World Cup match, never mind won a knockout game.

    Both events happened in 2006. Here's a round-up...

    Uruguay 2-1 England (Rooney)

    2010

Tunisia's goalkeeper Mouez Hassen wins just his fourth cap tonight, he has benefitted from Tunisia’s recent strategy to integrate French-born players to strengthen the World Cup squad, although he had resisted previous approaches from Tunisia, probably to hold out for France. Born in Chateauroux, Hassen has four caps for the French under-21 side, last appearing for them against Scotland in a European Championship qualifier in October 2015. He is likely to provide a long-term replacement to Aymen Mathlouthi.

  16. 'Southgate has taken the pressure away'published at 18:37 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Tunisia v England (19:00 BST)

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on BBC One

Gareth Southgate has handled the press, that is the job of a manager. alleviate the pressure, from the press and fans.

He also has to be a social worker, drill those young players and tell them there's something to win with the backdrop of an identity.

  17. 'Henderson moves the ball quicker'published at 18:37 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Tunisia v England (19:00 BST)

    Jermaine Jenas
Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

The midges were a nightmare yesterday and it was hard to talk without catching one in your mouth. There are still a few flying about now but, thankfully, today is not as a bad.

I think Jordan Henderson was preferred to Eric Dier because he moves the ball quicker and he is athletic. Dwelling on it and allowing Tunisia to get back into position will catch us out.

  18. 'We do not try to hurt anyone'published at 18:36 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Belgium 3-0 Panama

On his side picking up five bookings, Panama coach Hernan Dario Gomez added: "We are a very organised team, we play tactically and sometimes our players look a bit tough, but other teams are also tough and physically strong.

"We never have the intention to be tough but they are strong men. We do not try to hurt anyone, we have good intentions."

The surroundings around this Volgograd Arena look absolutely superb. It's not the easiest World Cup to get to for an England fan but I hope all of those who have made it to Russia are having a wonderful time.

They will - but getting three points on the board will be a fine start.
