    Japan 1-1 Senegal

No point bringing up the big lads if you're going to do that. It's a low corner, which Salif Sane tries to backheel on but Japan clear.

    Japan 1-1 Senegal

Senegal have a corner as Hiroki Sakai blocks Youssouf Sabaly's cross. The big men go up.

    Japan 1-1 Senegal

Genki Haraguchi, who seems to be Japan's most lively player, shoots well over from long range.

This is threatening to be one of those games you don't have high hopes for but really enjoy - like Switzerland v Serbia a couple of days ago.

Mark Windass: Some good goals have been scored in this tournament so far. Great finish from Japan.

I, externalsaac Manda: That control from Yuto Nagatomo though. Exquisite.

Florian Kezilahabi: Senegal midfield is non-existent.

Senegal almost lead again - the ball breaks for M'Baye Niang, who netted against Poland, but keeper Eiji Kawashima is off his line to deny him.

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

For the last 10 or 15 minutes Japan have dominated possession and they have got themselves into pockets of space rather than trying to match Senegal physically.

It's a long diagonal ball to Nagatomo, before it gets played to Inui, who bends it inside the post. Senegal have just lost their way a bit.

Japan are now on top and Senegal do well to head a cross away.

He used the defender to screen the goalkeeper so he cannot react. He has been one of the most impressive performers in the last two matches. They have not been in the game and had not looked threatening throughout. It is a lovely finish into the far corner.

Takashi Inui has always impressed me when I've seen him for Eibar - which admittedly is usually just when they play Real Madrid or Barcelona.

He's already tied up a move to Real Betis this summer.

Level. Inter Milan veteran Yuto Nagatomo does well to control a ball into the box, and lays it off to Takashi Inui, who just curls an effort beyond Khadim N'Diaye.

Sadio Mane goes down in a heap after a tackle by Hiroki Sakai. Once the referee stops play to check on him, Mane hops up.

  13. 'Deserved lead for Senegal'published at 16:30 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    Japan 0-1 Senegal

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a deserved lead for Senegal at the moment. They started the game on the front foot and they have created opportunities. Japan have just started to grow into this game but they have got to be clever with their play.

    Japan 0-1 Senegal

Good defending by Kalidou Koulibaly to snuff out a possible Shinji Kagawa attack.

Koulibaly was impressive for Napoli this season and scored one of the most dramatic goals of the Serie A campaign, when it looked briefly like Juventus' long dominance of the title could be coming to an end.

Rich Scales: I can't see a way Japan are going to win anything in the air here.... These Senegal players are so much bigger and stronger. Japan might need a reshuffle here.... I definitely agree they seem weak down their left side, its already been exploited a few times.... I can see some long range tests on their goalie too, his confidence will be low after that blunder.

Excellent skill by Sadio Mane, who controls a pass and then shows some good touches in the box - but former Southampton team-mate Maya Yoshida gets it out for a corner.

  20. Where is the Japan threat?'published at 16:26 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    Japan 0-1 Senegal

    Kevin Kilbane
Former Republic of Ireland winger on BBC One

Japan can't hurt Senegal in behind as there is no pace, but they are moving the ball too slowly. Where is the threat, where is the penetration?
