  1. Japanese coach tells his players to grow...published at 15:38 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

Japan's players must use their brains to get the better of Senegal - after failing in their mission to grow in both height and weight, says coach Akira Nishino.

"For the past several days, I have been telling my players to gain 5cm and 5kg but it failed! So we need other measures," said Nishino.

"If there's a lot of physical contact then we will be at a disadvantage, therefore we will have to make some variations and then we can use our quickness."

  3. Lawro's predictionpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    Japan v Senegal (16:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

Both of these teams surprised me by winning their opening games, although Japan were obviously helped by Colombia conceding a penalty and going down to to 10 men in the first few minutes of their match.

Senegal looked pretty solid at the back until they conceded late on and it will be interesting to see how both teams approach this game, because whoever wins it is probably through.

    Prediction: 1-1

  4. 96 caps but no longer a starterpublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    Japan v Senegal (16:00 BST)

Keisuke Honda has been directly involved in six of Japan's last eight World Cup goals, scoring three and assisting three.

However, Honda has not scored in his last 15 international games, a run stretching back to September 2016.

He is on the bench again today.

Honda is the first Japanese footballer to play in Mexico, by the way. He balls for Pachuca.

  5. Senegal change up their attackpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    Japan v Senegal (16:00 BST)

Stoke's Mame Diouf started up front against the Poles but didn't register a single shot, and was withdrawn after an hour.

Moussa Konate and Moussa Sow were alternative options to start but midfielder Badou Ndiaye comes in instead.

Ex-Watford forward M'Baye Niang plays as the sole striker today. I'm sure he'll get plenty of support from Sadio Mane, mind.

  6. Okazaki starts on benchpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    Japan v Senegal (16:00 BST)

Forward Shinji Okazaki was a doubt prior to the opening match because of a calf problem but played the final five minutes, so is fit.

But the Leicester man could not displace Yuya Osako, who impressed as a lone striker against Colombia and scored their winner.

Most N'Diaye/Ndiayes to ever start a World Cup game surely.

    Japan v Senegal (16:00 BST)

Unsurprisingly Japan are unchanged following their 2-1 win over Colombia in the first game. That means Leicester forward Shinji Okazaki again starts on the substitutes bench.

Japan: Kawashima, Hiroki Sakai, Yoshida, Shoji, Nagatomo, Haraguchi, Hasebe, Shibasaki, Inui, Kagawa, Osako.

Liverpool's Sadio Mane again starts for Senegal, who are looking to claim their second - and Africa's third - win of this tournament.

Stoke midfielder Badou Ndiaye returns to the side while 19-year-old defender Moussa Wague again starts for the Teranga Lions.

Senegal: K N'Diaye, Sabaly, Koulibaly, Sane, Wague, B Ndiaye, A N'Diaye, Gueye, Sarr, Niang, Mane.

    Group HImage source, .

This group is opposite land of what most people expected. Robert Lewandowski's Poland and James Rodriguez's Colombia were the two favourites to go through but both suffered surprise defeats in their openers.

A win today can't quite take Japan or Senegal into the next round but they'll be on the verge.

If Poland and Colombia draw later on, then the winners of this match (if one side does win) will go through.

Senegal deservedly beat Poland 2-1 - although there was controversy about their second goal.

M'Baye Niang sprinted back on to the field of play after injury and immediately intercepted a backpass before scoring.

Idrissa Gueye's deflected shot had given them the lead before Grzegorz Krychowiak's headed equaliser.

Japan beat Colombia 2-1 in the opening game.

Colombia had Carlos Sanchez dismissed for handball early on, and Shinji Kagawa scored the penalty.

Juan Quintero's clever free-kick, fired low under the jumping wall, levelled the score but Yuya Osako headed a Japanese winner.
