Senegal have got devastating pace on the counter attack. The speed of Niang, Mane and Ndiaye on the break is frightening, and that's a way for them to get the second goal.

    On Sarr's shot (23 mins)

Superb break from the corner. It is a difficult one to get pace on when you are falling away.

Nsubuga Owe: Senegal looking more hungrier. I fancied them to be the best African country in the World Cup and so far so good.

Papi De La Cal: Actually looks like it's men against boys here. Senegal are massive!

Free-kick for Japan out wide as Yuya Osako sprays a great ball out left to Takashi Inui, who is felled by Ismaila Sarr.

Rodney: What was Eiji Kawashima doing with that punch? More poor goalkeeping in a WC of keeping gaffs.

Paul: Do some goalies not realise those things they have called hands can be used to catch the ball?

Remember Senegal have never lost a World Cup group game. A win here would take them to the verge of the last 16.

Lee Fergusson: Poor goal by Japan to concede but Senegal fully deserve it on the start they have made so far.

Simon Wales: Surely that was easier to catch than punch out? Oops Japan keeper.

Colin Bundred: A ridiculous decision to punch the ball from the Japanese keeper. Any competent goalie would catch that.

    Japan 0-1 Senegal

Japan have their first shot, but it's blocked... by a Japanese player.

Shinji Kagawa lines one up, 25 yards out, but just rifles it at Takashi Inui - who has joined Real Betis this summer.

  16. 'Shocker from Kawashima'published at 16:15 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    Japan 0-1 Senegal

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a shocker from the Japanese goalkeeper Kawashima. He tries to punch the shot away, instead of scooping it into his mid-drift, and he punches it straight into Sadio Mane's knee. He finds his team 1-0 down.

  18. 'Rewarded for taking a gamble'published at 16:13 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    Japan 0-1 Senegal

    Kevin Kilbane
Former Republic of Ireland winger on BBC One

He does get a bit of luck, Sadio Mane, but they have started better. It is a poor defensive header, but Mane gets his reward for taking a gamble. That's a poor goal for Japan to concede so early. It was preventable two or three times for Japan.

GOAL - Japan 0-1 Senegalpublished at 11 mins

    Sadio Mane

    Deserved - albeit a fluke.

M'Baye Niang crosses the ball and Japan's Genki Haraguchi gets a weak header onto it. The ball lands for Youssouf Sabaly, whose shot is parried by keeper Eiji Kawashima... off the shins of Sadio Mane and into the back of the net.

There is a real good organised structure to this Senegalese team.

Japan are well organised and good in possession, they keep the ball well.
