  1. CLOSE!published at 16:04 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Brazil 0-0 Mexico

Layun's first job is to stop Neymar's step-overs. He does, blocking the ball and conceding a corner.

It's a quick corner from Brazil and it catches Mexico by surprise. Philippe Coutinho's shot is a good one but it's well saved by Guillermo Ochoa.

  2. 'Mexico have 45 minutes to win the game'published at 16:03 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Brazil 0-0 Mexico

    Dion Dublin
Ex-Aston Villa striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Mexico have 45 minutes to win the game and Marquez would've been shattered playing in this heat. He did everything right but it's all about legs now.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:02 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Brazil 0-0 Mexico

Mexico have made a change at the break. Rafael Marquez is off and Miguel Layun is on.

Edson Alvarez has moved into midfield and Layun is left to deal with Neymar at right-back. Interesting...

  4. KICK-OFFpublished at 45 mins

    Brazil 0-0 Mexico

We're back underway. And I'm dropping a stat which Mexico fans may not like...

All four of Mexico's goals that they have conceded at this World Cup have come in the second half.

    Uh-oh.

Ian Thompson: No debate at all, Roberto Firmino offers so much more than Gabriel Jesus, who has done nothing in this World Cup so far.

Khan Karn: Roberto Firmino any day. Does way more in big matches, work that goes unnoticed. Hard working as any, same goes for Fernandinho. Unsung heroes.

Steven Kempton: Firmino over Jesus every hour of the day every day of the week!

Can you name the 15 teams represented in the current Brazil squad?

You have three minutes to get them all. I'll tell you my score when you tell me yours.

    Give it a go.

Mits Jutley: Bobby has to start over Jesus. Let him run the defence ragged for the first 60 odd mins....then bring on Jesus. Simples.

Chris Ryan: Firmino should be starting ahead of Jesus. I don’t feel Jesus has done anything of note so far and Firmino will bring a new dynamic to this squad.

Ben Steiger: Firmino over Gabriel Jesus every time for me. Offers more energy up front and makes up for Neymar's lack of pressure. Experience playing with Coutinho at LFC is also a big plus.

Sunny: Neymar has a very long way to go before being mentioned in the same bracket as Ronaldo and Messi. He gets more of the ball than both, and produces less for club and country.

Jodmos: Mexico are getting good chances but keep holding off shooting

Lucas: A stepover every 45 mins is not a good return for £200+m Neymar

  12. Now here's a debate...published at 15:48 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Brazil 0-0 Mexico

So during the half-time break I leave you with this question... (well, two actually)

    Paulinho or Fernandinho?

    Gabriel Jesus or Roberto Firmino?

Which duo would you be starting in this game? Every time I've watched Brazil in Russia I've wondered whether they could benefit from Firmino's high-pressing and bursts of intensity.

  13. 'Proper football'published at 15:47 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Brazil 0-0 Mexico

    Dion Dublin
Ex-Aston Villa striker on BBC Radio 5 live

This is proper football. Both teams are working incredibly hard in this heat. They are trying different ways of getting through and both goalkeepers have had to make saves.

A cagey first half really. Mexico should have done better when they were dominant early on because Brazil have actually come closest to finding the net.

  17. Postpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

Neymar has created three goalscoring chances in this game and now has 14 in the tournament, more than any other other player.

Just the one goal though. Will he get one today? He has a few minutes of this half to do so.

  18. Postpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Waste.

The free-kick goes straight into Alisson's hands.

  19. Postpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Brazil 0-0 Mexico

Willian takes a corner from the right but it's a poor one and it doesn't beat the first man. Mexico look to counter through Hirving Lozano and Carlos Vela.

Filipe Luis comes charging through Vela, giving away a foul and a free-kick and he gets a yellow card for it.

    A little harsh maybe?

  20. 'No trouble for the goalkeeper'published at 15:41 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Brazil 0-0 Mexico

    Dion Dublin

Neymar got that free-kick up and down but there wasn't really enough pace on it to trouble the goalkeeper.
