This is great. Free-kick for Croatia now. Direct football.

You can keep your tiki-taka, and all that palaver, I'm telling you mate I'd rather have a big long throw-in with all the family...

Ivan Perisic hits one, into the wall and away.

Help me out - who was the last Huddersfield player to score in a World Cup?

Efe Sodje? I don't think Clyde Wijnhard ever got one, for shame.

Martin Smith, son of Pele, sort of counts...

Femi: This is a cracker! 2 goals already and we still have over 80 minutes to go

Ged: With defending like that opening 5 minutes, we could be in for a goal-fest

Andrew: Good luck Tom - could be a busy shift!

    Bring it on, Andrew!

They've not read the script have they? Neither side had conceded from open play before this match.

I'd say most of the people in here are neutral and relishing this breathless start to the game.

Loudest noise so far? Chants of 'Russia, Russia'.

If any England fans are getting giddy at this bottom half of the draw - and let's face it, there must be loads - the defending from both of these sides so far will hardly have put the brakes on.

I have just seen two of the luckiest goals in the entire World Cup. Croatia respond and burst down the right, and if you're Denmark, who do you not want the ball to fall to from six yards out? Mandzukic makes no mistake.

If you're just tuning in, this is the World Cup and not a local non-league game. Bring it on. Rubbish defending and goalkeeping = class entertainment.

    Mario Mandzukic

    Ha ha ha ha!

What a start to this game! Two goals which you'd be almost embarrassed to score in the Evo-Stik League have given us a sensational start in the World Cup!

A cross comes in from the right, it's cleared haphazardly into the face of Andreas Christensen and Mario Mandzukic swivels to miscue a shot into the corner.

Some terrible football. Some brilliant excitement!

What a phenomenal start. There were so many Danish players in the area for that throw, and it was a fortunate goal, but Denmark won't care a jot.

    Keeper! Zanka!

The Huddersfield centre-half has given Denmark a lead after 61 seconds!

Ipswich full-back Jonas Knudsen hurls in a massive throw, Croatia don't deal with it, Mathias Jorgenses squeezes off a shot which should be saved but Danijel Subasic fumbles it in off the base of the post.

    A nightmare!

I think this would be an amazing story if Denmark manage to pull it off today. Other than the Danish supporters very few people are giving them a chance today so this would be a huge shock as well.

Denmark, for some reason, left Lord Bendtner at home.

Could be the decision which separates them from a place in the final.

    John Southall
BBC Radio 5 live football reporter in Nizhny Novgorod

There’s a lot of empty seats in the Nizhny Novgorod stadium and there’s been a strangely subdued atmosphere in the build-up to kick-off.

The suggestion from this commentary team is that maybe the Russians have chosen option one - to stay in the bars in town to celebrate, can’t blame them.

It does look nice, I have to concur

Here we go look. ‘There Is A Lovely Country' is one of Denmark’s two official national anthems – but it is the one performed at civic and sporting events. The opening lyrics are ‘there is a lovely country, it stands with broad beech-trees, near the salty eastern shore.’

The alternative anthem (‘King Christian stood by the lofty mast’) is used at royal or military ceremonies, and harks back to naval victories in the 17th century.
