It should be a cracker, two of the big favourites for the tournament, both unbeaten.

Belgium had an incredible comeback in the last game, they were in desperate trouble but they showed great character in coming back. That has to give them huge confidence.

Marouane Fellaini will give Belgium solidity, he will sit in midfield with Alex Witsel. It also frees up Kevin de Bruyne to play forwards and find those passes that we see at Manchester City every week.

    I miss these three.

The best frontline I have ever seen.

    Robbie Fowler
Former Liverpool striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Roberto Martinez likes to play attacking teams and I think he realises the strength of his side as well. Everybody is worried about the myth of Brazil, but on paper, I don't think Belgium should fear anyone. If anything, they have been the standout team in the World Cup so far and I think they go into the game as favourites.

Ben: Of course it’s a very long way to get there but I think the one team that really frightened Brazil (and weren’t intimidated by Brazil) was Uruguay.

Joe: This match hinges on which Neymar shows up tonight! World beater or diving cheater?...

  6. 'Two sides with the capacity to hurt each other'published at 18:29 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

    Tim Vickery
BBC Sport South American football expert

Brazil are up against a rival with an awesome firepower of its own and these are two sides with the capacity to hurt each other. I suspect Brazil have a better balance of power between defence and attack, so they are probably favourites.

But as Tite said, the biggest challenge at this stage of the World Cup is mental capacity. What happens if Brazil go behind or Neymar picks up a booking to miss the next game, should they get there? How do Brazil react?

  7. Neym-arghhh!published at 18:27 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

Belgium's current run without losing is the longest of any team left in the tournament.

With Wimbledon being on at the moment, four-time Grand Slam champion Kim Clijsters has been speaking about her dad Lei, who played at that World Cup in 1986.

Lei was a centre-back for Belgium, winning 40 caps, and died in 2009 aged 52.

Kim told BBC Sport: "I was three when my dad was at Mexico ’86 and seven when they were played at Italia ‘90. They reached the semis in Mexico. I remember I had photos and the atmosphere and the vibe in Belgium – in my home town was incredible.

"Back then most players were playing in Belgium - now we have world stars who are doing extremely well in the best leagues in football. There was a lot of hope for them four years ago, but now they have matured a lot.

"I like the coach Roberto Martinez. And I think assistant Thierry Henry doesn’t get enough credit. That to me is surprising. I think the players like to listen to him and accept things from him."

Belgium last reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in 1986, where they were beaten 2-0 by eventual winners Argentina.

The man scoring a double that day in Mexico City?

    A certain Diego Armando Maradona.

    Wonder where he is nowadays.

  15. Belgium 'feeling good'published at 18:04 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

    Brazil v Belgium (19:00 BST)

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez: "Brazil are a team that enjoy having the ball and we have to be organised in midfield. Not many teams have created chances against Brazil and that is what we have to do. We have to cover each other, make the pitch small and utilise the good feeling that we have.

"We will have a zonal job to cover Marcelo. We have to be unselfish and aware of defending space as a team. Today you cannot give jobs to individuals. Today is about being compact and defending as a solid block."

A tweak from Roberto Martinez then.

Nacer Chadli and Marouane Fellaini, who scored as substitutes against Japan, both start. Kevin de Bruyne moves forwards from his deep midfield role as Yannick Carrasco and Dries Mertens miss out.

Hit Fellaini at the back stick?

Belgium XI: Courtois, Alderweireld, Kompany, Vertoghen, Meunier, Chadli, Witsel, Fellaini, De Bruyne, Hazard, Lukaku.

  17. Is Belgium's golden generation finally about to deliver?published at 17:59 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

    Brazil v Belgium (19:00 BST)

This is supposed to be Belgium's golden generation, and perhaps for the first time we are beginning to see why.

Trailing 2-0 to Japan and heading out of the World Cup, the Red Devils mounted an extraordinary comeback, scoring three times in the final 21 minutes to set up a quarter-final against Brazil.

In March 2016, Belgium topped Fifa's world rankings. Four months later they were knocked out of Euro 2016 by Wales in the quarter-finals. Yet another tournament at which the Red Devils flattered to deceive.

Two years earlier they had also gone out of the World Cup at the quarter-final stage, beaten by eventual runners-up Argentina.

But could this squad - featuring several Premier League winners - finally be about to deliver?
