    Brazil 0-1 Belgium

Belgium skipper Eden Hazard has been a little quiet so far.

But the diminutive Chelsea attacker suddenly comes alive with a brilliant piece of skill to evade Paulinho before feeding the on-running Thomas Meunier, whose low cross is crucially blocked by Marcelo at the front post.

    Pat Nevin

This is exactly the game I wanted to see. The skills and the passing have been very good. Brazil have had the better chances but all of the big players have turned up. Every time Romelu Lukaku gets the ball he looks like a monster for Belgium.

  6. CLOSE!published at 20 mins

    Brazil 0-1 Belgium

Philippe Coutinho has scored a couple of crackers in the this World Cup.

He eyes up another from 25 yards out, under pressure from Marouane Fellaini, but the strike bounces nicely into the hands of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Belgium showed their mettle by coming from behind against Japan in the last-16, now we will see how they size up going ahead against Brazil.

    Brazil 0-1 Belgium

    Fernando Duarte
    BBC World Service in Kazan

All the six goals conceded by Brazil since Tite took over in 2016 have come from dead balls.

Fernandinho, of all players, will be disappointed. He was on the pitch during the 7-1 defeat by Germany four years ago and at fault for at least two of the goals

  10. 'Such intensity'published at 19:17 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

    Brazil 0-1 Belgium

    Danny Murphy
    Former England midfielder

It's a brilliant start to the game, such intensity. Incredible.

I don't know where Alisson was going for the goal.

It's fascinating watching Belgium. When they have the ball it looks like they are playing wing-backs but when they lose it they drop into a back four. It's clear they have worked on it on the training ground.

Its all about the quality of the ball. I think Fernandinho's shoulder gets the last touch, and he knows nothing about it, but it's a great ball in. Brazil are the cause of their own problems there.

  13. CLOSE!published at 15 mins

    Brazil 0-1 Belgium

Unperturbed by letting that goal in, Brazil go on the attack immediately.

Willian forces club team-mate Thibaut Courtois into a diving save from a cross, before Gabriel Jesus strike from close range is blocked in the six yard box.

    Breathless football in Kazan.

GOAL - Brazil 0-1 Belgiumpublished at 14 mins

    Fernandinho own goal

    Into his own net!

Nacer Chadli swings in the corner to the front post, no Belgium player is getting on the end of it.

Gabriel Jesus looks like he distracts Fernandinho, who mis-times the jump for the header, and the ball bounces off his arm and into the net.

An early goal and now we see what Brazil are made of.

    Beautiful from Kevin de Bruyne.

The Manchester City midfielder plays a lovely pass through to rival Manchester United man Marouane Fellani, but he toe-pokes a deflected shot wide.

    Corner to Belgium.

    Brazil 0-0 Belgium

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 live

Brilliant piece of play by both sides which shows the attitude of both sides. They want to attack. I'm not sure how much Thiago Silva knew about it and it just comes off his knee.

But within five seconds, Romelu Lukaku shrugs off his full-back and Hazard gets a shot off at the other end. I really hope the game carries on in this fashion.

From the corner, Paulinho is free, unmarked 10 yards out and mis-cues a strike.

    He should have buried it.

Belgium already being made to work at the back.

Gabriel Jesus shows quick feet to play the ball to Paulinho, but the Barcelona man is faced by a red wall, who manage to scramble clear for a corner.
