They've gone early with the first playing of Three Lions at Silverstone - a full 90 minutes before kick-off over in Russia as England aim to beat Sweden and get into the World Cup semi-finals.

A rather muted response to the Baddiel, Skinner and the Lightning Seeds classic with a few people humming along, but the majority remained more focused on their drinks, ice cream or sun intake.

But after qualifying, which runs from 2-3pm, the game will be shown on seven big screens around Silverstone. It is going to be very, very lively later on and a great place for a party if England can reach the semi-finals for the first time in 28 years.

England might have to dig in for another attritional battle against the country that almost always seems to make life difficult for them.

They have met 24 times in total, England winning eight, drawing nine and losing seven. In World Cups and Euros they played four times - winning one, drawing two and losing one.

England, apart from the rout against hapless Panama, have hardly been peppering the goal while Sweden, the epitome of defensive discipline, advanced by digging out a 1-0 win against Switzerland thanks to a deflected shot from Emil Forsberg, their main creator.

There will be no shortage of tension no matter how this World Cup quarter-final plays out - that will be provided by the huge stakes on offer.

    England have their golden chance.

Mikael Lustig says the joy of helping Sweden reach the World Cup quarter-final overshadows the disappointment of missing the match through suspension.

The Celtic right-back was booked during the 1-0 win over Switzerland and sits out.

Asked if there were mixed emotions, the 31-year-old said: "There are, but it doesn't really matter.

"We have taken our country to the quarter-final in the World Cup and that's a great achievement."

On Friday, former Masters winner Sergio Garcia graced the All England Club with his presence.

Sergio loves football, although sadly his beloved Spain are out.

However, he’s still keeping a keen eye on the World Cup.

So Sergio, England or Sweden tomorrow?

“It has to be England,” said the Spaniard.

It has not gone unnoticed that BBC Radio 5 live pundit Pat Nevin - a Scot, it should be noted - suggested the other day that 99 times out of 100 England should beat Sweden.

Indeed, in the Swedish camp near Krasnodar they are absolutely delighted with this kind of comment.

The players were discussing it the day after their win over the Swiss and see it as a sign that the message they love to spread is once again taking hold.

"Well, it is fun for England to have that sort of confidence," said captain Granqvist. "Let's just see how the game goes."

France and Italy in World Cup qualification, Mexico and Switzerland here in Russia - all have under-estimated Sweden, all lost. Germany were minutes away from the same fate in their group game.

Sweden know that they lack star quality, they know that their strength is that they are a team in the true sense of the word; a group of individuals working towards a common goal.

    Sweden v England (15:00 BST)

England's progress in the World Cup may have delighted the nation - but it's also taken some by surprise.

A whopping 23.6 million tuned in to watch England beat Colombia in a historic penalty shoot-out on Tuesday, with all eyes now on the quarter-final against Sweden in Samara.

But with the match happening on a sunny Saturday afternoon, some people who didn't expect England to do quite so well, or who perhaps hadn't been interested in the tournament until now, are facing a clash.

So, what are people doing to make sure they see the game?

World Cup 2018: Harry Kane puts England ahead from penalty spot

The thing that impressed me most about England against Colombia was the way they stood up to the provocation they faced.

But Gareth Southgate's side also did well to respond after conceding an equaliser so late, and obviously recovering from that.

The way the draw has opened up for England is a massive carrot for them, and I think they will continue their progress.

Sweden's strength is their organisation at the back, but England have got the players to open them up, especially out wide, and I can see them getting some joy when they come forward.

    Lawro's prediction: 0-2

Kevin de Bruyne: Watch his wonder goal from all the best angles

Belgium showed a little bit of everything a World Cup-winning team need in the 2-1 quarter-final victory over Brazil - so are they now favourites for the tournament?

Roberto Martinez's Red Devils were phenomenal in the first half, leading 2-0 and threatening to blow Brazil away, before showing strength of character to hold on for the final 15 minutes after Renato Augusto's goal set up a tense finale.

This victory came just four days after they fought back from 2-0 down to beat Japan 3-2 in the last 16.

We have known for years they have the players, but questions have lingered over their mentality.

Many of those doubts now seem to have been answered, with Match of the Day pundit Rio Ferdinand saying they "are the team to beat" in Russia as they bid to win their first major tournament.

Surely Sir Bobby Charlton isn't going to miss the match. Is he?!

The England 1966 hero is one of the star sporting guests in the Wimbledon Royal Box today - if I see him sloping out of his seat at 2.55pm then I'll let you know.

Or maybe he's just happy to miss it for the tennis because he's wondering what all the fuss is about.

I mean, it's only a World Cup quarter-final. Sir Bobby only deals in World Cup finals. And he wins them.
