Speaking after the game, Belgium manager Roberto Martinez said: "It was a dead ball situation which was the difference.

"It was a close game and it was very tight and it was going to be decided by that bit of luck in front of goal. The attitude of the players was brilliant and we couldn't ask for anymore. We have to understand one team wins and the other loses, and we did what we could."

Asked about the French goal, Martinez added: "That is the type of detail that counts in the semi-final of the World Cup. We have one game left and I want to ensure we finish the tournament on a high because these players don't deserve to leave here with a bad taste."

    France 1-0 Belgium

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

It never lived up to the billing. We thought there was going to be extra time tonight. All credit to France they were remarkably professional.

Lukaku just has not got what it takes to play in a World Cup final. France looked a class apart.

Deserved. The Belgians had 64% of the possession but the French deserved to win. When they got the goal, they knew how to kill the game a work together. Every time Hazard or De Bruyne got the ball they were smothered.

At no point in the second half did I think Belgium were going to score. This French team are good and they are getting better.

    France 1-0 Belgium

    Danny Murphy
    Former England midfielder

You have to applaud the French. It was a disciplined team performance and everyone was brilliant for them on the night. Kylian Mbappe made them look a threat on the break but a set-play won it for them. They are going to be a tough nut to crack in the final.

Regrets, they'll have a few. Belgium had 68% of the possession in the second half but ran out of ideas. The closest they came after the break was a sole header from Marouane Fellaini.
