As soon as I saw the England players in the tunnel they looked like the team from the '80s with that training top on. Playing in all white tonight will be great, it's a little bit muggy out here, but the conditions are perfect.

Everybody loves to see a player come through the ranks into the first team at their club, but the Premier League generates so much money, clubs can buy the best talent.

That makes it difficult for young players to breakthrough, but the aim has to be to increase the numbers of boys playing first team football in England and not abroad.

The biggest challenge the top six English clubs have at the minute is that the managers of those clubs are all foreign, so they tend to recruit from what they know which is from abroad. The other 14 clubs should be looking to take on young English players from the top six Premier League clubs to gain experience of the Premier League.

As well as the incredible influx of England fans, what you really notice when you walk around the Luzhniki Stadium is just how many fans from other countries are still here.

A lot of them are neutrals, but others clearly are not. Take the Colombia fan below for example. Clearly still feeling the pain of those penalties.

Alejandra and Luis (above) are also backing Croatia – they have won a competition to come here from Costa Rica and are decked out in their own kit, but Luis has got a Croatia badge painted on his right cheek.

“Costa Rica are out but we are so happy to be at this World Cup,” Luis explains. “It is a great party and everyone wants to be a part of it.”

Why Croatia, though? “We identify with them because they are a smaller country,” he adds. “I know England is huge when it comes to football, so we want to see the little guys do well.”

    Croatia v England (19:00 BST)

St George's Park has been open six years. It was always a 10-year plan to think we'd start being dangerous. It shows the seniors are taking it on. Now with the country behind them the young talent will be desperate to get into that team.

I think it's given Gareth Southgate the green light to bring that younger talent through. I see the next four or five tournaments to be strong for us.

One change for Croatia to the side that beat hosts Russia on penalties in the quarter-finals.

Marcelo Brozovic comes in to replace former Leicester man Andrej Kramaric, who scored the opener in that game.

It looks like Ivan Rakitic and Brozovic will play in front of the back four, so star man Luka Modric will be in the number 10 role.

Croatia XI: Subasic, Vrsaljko, Lovren, Vida, Strinic, Brozovic, Rakitic, Rebic, Perisic, Modric, Mandzukic.

The England supporters outnumber them, but there are plenty of Croatia fans here too. They do not seem to be quite so confident though…

Ivicia (left) is from Dubrovnik, and was initially reluctant to call this semi-final one way or the other.

“I don’t know sir, this is a game and – how do you say? - the ball is round. These are two good teams and, whoever wins, it is going to be very close.”

I did push him for a score though and he went for Croatia to win 2-1.
