Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

It would have been very easy for that to go to a French player but that is the right decision. Modric has been a credit to his country.

The right decision, if you ask me. Modric looks devastated as he stands next to a beaming Kylian Mbappe...

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on BBC One

For some reason the jigsaw puzzle hasn't been put together properly in a Manchester United shirt. The way the team plays, I think 'are they getting the ball into him in the right areas?' He's not receiving the ball quickly enough. Is he being put in the right positions? These are the questions a manager has to work out.

Can't believe people are saying Croatia deserved more. They were lucky to even be in the final. France have been better and been better all tournament. Well deserved, and it's a shame they didn't play a better team.

  13. 'Mbappe knows his position'published at 18:20 British Summer Time 15 July 2018

    France win the World Cup

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on BBC One

Young players go searching and hunting for the ball and that affects team balance. But Kylian Mbappe stays wide for the good of the team because he knows it's his position.

  14. 'Croatia will return home as heroes'published at 18:19 British Summer Time 15 July 2018

    France win the World Cup

    Alan Shearer
Former England captain on BBC One

Croatia deserve great credit because they kept going. They were behind in every knockout game and they fought back. Again in this final, to be behind and then come back to make it as entertaining as it was, they deserve credit and they return home as heroes.

  16. Who will win the Golden Ball?published at 18:19 British Summer Time 15 July 2018

    France win the World Cup

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on BBC One

I was leaning towards Luka Modric before this game but I can't get my head away from Kylian Mbappe. What is unbelievable is that at 19-years-old he has already got defenders on the backfoot. They are backing off because they know what he is capable of. They don't like defending like that. He drives at people. It is so refreshing to see.

  17. 'Mbappe for the Golden Ball'published at 18:19 British Summer Time 15 July 2018

    France win the World Cup

    Alan Shearer
Former England captain on BBC One

I said ahead of kick off that the Golden Ball was between Kylian Mbappe and Luka Modric, and whoever performed best should win the award. I think Mbappe should get it for his goal, drive and determination.

    France win the World Cup

    Sir Trevor Brooking
Former England midfielder in Moscow for BBC Radio 5 live

I wasn't expecting the surprises and the shocks of this World Cup. You couldn't predict any game. If I had watched a film with this script I would have said it was a bit far-fetched.

Everyone has been relaxed and enjoyed being in Russia. The tournament has been a massive success.

We have had a tournament that everyone has been talking about and that is great.
