Right then, can Middlesbrough turn this around and force extra time, or even more?

The visitors need a goal. They're back out for the second half.

Mark Ryan: Villa very comfortable especially with Boro playing only one up front. Pulis does realise they need to score?

James C: Bamford to come on in the second half and bag a hat-trick

David Thackeray: Well, yesterday was a Lord Mayor's show compared to this; can't really see Fulham losing any sleep.

It's not been vintage stuff so far, has it? Middlesbrough have failed to muster a single shot on target and, as it stands, Aston Villa remain on course for Wembley.

  6. Set-pieces to provide the drama?published at 20:41 British Summer Time 15 May 2018

HT: Aston Villa 0-0 Middlesbrough (1-0 agg)

It's not just because one of these two sides is managed by Tony Pulis, but there's a growing feeling that, whatever drama might be in store for us tonight, it's going to come from a set-piece.

And there may be no better chance missed tonight than the one by James Chester from Jack Grealish's corner.

The Villa centre-half had a run of scoring in three successive games earlier this season, including one against champions Wolves. After that turn, swing and miss, how he must wish he'd saved one up for tonight.

HT: Aston Villa 0-0 Middlesbrough (1-0 agg)

Tony Pulis' men have some thinking to do at the break.

They're yet to have a shot on target tonight, despite seeing more of the ball.

Villa have had a fair bit of defending to do - most of it aerial stuff - and they've done it relatively well.

Britt Assombalonga tries to take everyone on and almost succeeds, driving in to the Villa penalty as he evades multiples challenges, but he loses his balance about 10 yards from goal and Villa boot it clear.

He was nearly in for an amazing goal.

  16. Postpublished at 33 mins

Aston Villa 0-0 Middlesbrough (1-0 agg)

Villa are very deep. Both sides are giving the ball away. A LOT.

There's more than one way to play the great game of football, of course, but Fulham will be watching this with growing confidence.

Andy White: My six-year-old daughter, a Boro fan like me, wanted to stay up and watch the match. I didn't want her to have months of nightmares so made her go to bed. I'll suffer for the both of us.

Francis Wynn: Pulis must want to lose this game. Britt offered nothing on Saturday and Bamford caused problems, yet Pulis keeps him on the bench
