    Sadio Mane

    Criminal by West Ham!

There isn't a white shirt anywhere near Sadio Mane as he taps home in front of The Kop following James Milner's superb pull-back.

A terrible time to concede a terrible goal.

    Liverpool are dominating.

    Southampton 0-0 Burnley

Southampton are just starting to gain momentum. Stuart Armstrong delivers a ball into the box which just evades Charlie Austin at the back post. It will be interesting to see if Burnley can keep up their intensity in the second period, after their travels in midweek.

    Fabianski has been terrific.

The former Arsenal stopper is lightning quick off his line to stop Salah from adding a second.

David P H Thomas: Rice & Noble are getting completely over-run in the middle. More goals are inevitable.

Morelli Junior: You mean to tell me our attack-minded box-to-box midfielder (Keita) is more offensive than our holding midfielder (Henderson)? I'm absolutely shocked! Next up, centre-backs are more defensive than centre-forwards!

Simon, Inverness: Liverpool fans, no one will remember the nice football you play in 10 years time when you have nothing to show for it.

    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

Bit of a scrappy end to the half at Anfield.

West Ham will be glad to hear the half-time whistle.

Already Lukasz Fabianski is a contender for man of the match. That says it all.

Kyle Ferguson: I'm a United fan and with Liverpool it's not like they aren't a good team- they just seem to have no Plan B.

Nemesis: Normally fans influence their managers, in case of Man Utd it's the opposite. Their manager's negativity is showing on their fans.

It really has been all Liverpool during the first period so far. West Ham have barely threatened as this graphic shows.

I'm not sure Fabianski knew very much about that save - it should be 2-0 Liverpool. You can't see this game finishing 1-0 with the chances Liverpool are creating at the moment. They're getting in round the back time and time again.

  9. CLOSE!published at 14:08 British Summer Time 12 August 2018

    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

Liverpool should be out of sight.

Mohamed Salah gets on the end of a pin-point cross but it's not good enough to beat Lukasz Fabianski.

Moments later Fabianski is there again to deny Salah - this time with his chest after a scramble inside the six-yard area.

We've played 35 minutes at St Mary's, and it's just gone a little bit flat. Burnley are still controlling the game but Southampton are posing a threat on the counter.

Gareth Southgate is at Anfield but where's the waistcoat?

The England boss will be impressed with Trent Alexander-Arnold's contribution.

The youngster is producing another intelligent, mature performance.

Did Sean Dyche tell his Burnley players to shoot on sight at St Mary's?

Seven shots by the Clarets in the opening half an hour.

Adam Johnson: I really am fed up with all the bashing that Henderson gets, he's the captain of the club and one of our best midfielders. I'd have him on Wijnaldum anyday.

JoeD: Maybe West Ham will bring Wilshere on at halftime?

STell1404: Kane needs to learn to score in August otherwise he will be 6 goals behind by September. The King of Egypt proving in 20 mins he will be no one-season wonder.

    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

Encouraging signs West Ham are not out of this.

First Marko Arnautovic drags a shot wide after Liverpool's defence had switched off then Declan Rice powers a header towards the net but it's easy for Alisson.

That's his first save in Premier League football.

Mark: Love the bitter comments from the Man U fans here. I'd rather follow this Liverpool and finish 4th than have to watch the dross Mourinho serves up and finish 2nd.

Appu: MU fans are clearly riled by Liverpool ambition. Don’t blame them with their overrated team of expensive misfits.

    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

This could be an awfully long afternoon for West Ham.

No shots yet from the visitors and, moments before Liverpool took the lead, James Milner delivered a cracking ball into the six-yard area where three Red shirts were waiting. None could get a touch.

Edwin EA: Some lovely passing from midfield forward. Wijnaldum, Keita, and Salah all play one touches with the final ball into Firmino...dispossessed.. Such moves deserve a goal!

Francis Edwards: You can tell that Keita is three times the player that Henderson is. For a start Keita wants to pass forward!

Great move and it's great to see Salah up and running already. He won't get an easier goal this season. He puts away a simple tap-in from Robertson's lovely cross and it's exactly what Liverpool deserve. They've pushed West Ham back and have looked real quality.
