  1. Goodbye!published at 15:08 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

    That is that.

Cardiff and Newcastle fans - on reflection - satisfied with a point?

Anyway, there's a long, long way to go.

Chin up - we march on.

  2. 'It was a poor penalty'published at 15:07 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

    Cardiff 0-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Rafael Benitez to BBC Sport: "It was a difficult game against a physical team and we played a lot with 10 players.

"We had Javier Manquillo who was injured and then Hayden came in and got sent off so we had too many problems. In the end to get a point, it could be better, but we can not complain too much."

On Hayden's sending off: "There are a lot of things I would like to analyse but I do not want to talk about the referee."

On Kenedy's miss: "It was a poor penalty, he's not happy he missed a good chance. We win as a team and lose as a team, I am not concerned about the fact he missed a penalty, he has to take responsibility."

On Kenedy's kick out in the first-half: "There are a lot of things I see, but I can not say too much."

  3. 'Thank goodness we're playing in the Premier League'published at 15:06 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

    Cardiff 0-0 Newcastle

    Cardiff City

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock on Match of the Day: "I don't think the lads deserved to lose with a penalty like that.

"Kenedy was a lucky lad [when he kicked out]. There is stuff to work on for us - we were disappointing with our free-kicks.

"No disrespect but having watched Birmingham last night thank goodness we came out to a full house to play Newcastle in the Premier League."

  4. 'Kenedy's penalty miss was poetic justice'published at 15:02 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

    Cardiff 0-0 Newcastle

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock on Sky Sports: "Sometimes you don't get what you deserve. The lad Kenedy shouldn't have been on the pitch. It was straight red, but I never saw it.

"Regarding the penalty, Morrison's hand is outside the box and his body is inside.

"Regarding the penalty miss, I thought it was poetic justice.

"I've not seen Hayden's challenge on Murphy back yet. In all fairness to Craig Pawson I didn't see the kick out by Kenedy."

  5. 'I don't want to talk about the referee'published at 14:53 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

    Cardiff 0-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez on Sky Sports: "It was a difficult game. We have problems in the right-back positions - too many things went against us.

"Kenedy was the designated penalty taker. First it was Matt Ritchie [who came off] but then it was Kenedy."

Asked about the referee on the red card and Harry Arter's challenge: "I don't want to talk about the referee.

"We knew this game on paper you can be fighting with them. It's a pity with 10 players - you can't complain about the workrate.

"We had problems at the beginning, but we still had two clear chances."

  6. 'Deserved at least a point'published at 14:49 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

    Cardiff 0-0 Newcastle

    Cardiff City

Cardiff goalkeeper Neil Etheridge to Sky Sports: "We could have won it, but with a penalty in the last minute I will take a point and be happy to move onto next week.

"We don't want that to become a regular occurrence [conceding and saving a penalty], but we deserved at least a point. We knew we would have a chance at home and needed to get points on the board.

"It is not easy to step up in the 90th minute and take a penalty, but today I came out victorious."

Arsenal Ladies & former England international on Final Score

For Kenedy he struggled today, he didn't complete a pass in the first half. Sometimes as a player when things are not going your way you think "I'll step up and score to get me on my way", but that didn't happen for him today.

Rob: Rather grim reading for Cardiff fans, as they haven't registered a single shot on target from their 12 attempts. Going to have to be so much better if they want to stay up...

George: Shelvey showing why he wasn't taken to the World Cup. Been distinctly average today

DP: Wouldn't have mattered had Kenedy actually been sent off, he hasn't done anything. Tough times ahead for the Geordies with future suspensions. At least Ashley will get his House of Fraser in order.

Players have shocking games every now and again. He looked decent against Spurs so draw a line under it and move on. Why oh why did his teammates let him take it when he's having such a stinker though?

    Rob

    Agreed, a strange decision.

I guess what's been lost in all this - and perhaps understandably so - is that it's the first point of the season for both sides.

    Silver lining and all that.

Billy: Not sure if the handball was in the area, but a pen was the only way there was ever going to be a chance of breaking the deadlock today, and they still managed to miss!

Nokeeroe: The stats speak for themselves. Cardiff haven’t been able to muster a single shot on goal - even against ten men. It’s going to be a long hard slog for the Bluebirds this season if they are to survive in the Premier League.

Ryan: Kenedy has been woeful all game, so who’s allowed him to take a 96th minute penalty

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Wow. What a finish to the game.

Why is Jonjo Shelvey letting him take that penalty?

Brilliant from Neil Etheridge and well deserved for Cardiff as neither team deserved to win.

Alek: Kenedy never looked like he was gonna score that pen.

    Michael Pearlman
BBC Wales Sport at the Cardiff City Stadium

Who would have predicted Kenedy's penalty would be saved?

Everyone! He had a nightmare from start to finish.

Cardiff City's first Premier League point will feel like a victory.

I can hardly ever remember seeing a worse individual performance than Kenedy's though. A game he will want to forget in a hurry.
