Alek: It's only game two but I feel this game will give an indication about these two team's seasons. If neither wins they are in for a difficult season.

The last time Newcastle were here their fans never stopped singing and shouting as their side moved another step closer to the Championship title.

However, the away end is quiet today, the Toon Army are rarely making themselves heard.

I guess you need to factor in an early start, a long drive and serious discontent at the way the club is being managed off the field.

Newcastle are making life difficult for themselves again at the back.

Keeper Martin Dubravka tries to pass out from the back to Paul Dummett, but the ball is stolen before the play finishes with Junior Hoilett's poked ball towards the Newcastle goal, which is cleared.

Hoilett is in the thick of action again as he swings in a free-kick which has to be punched clear by Dubravka.

    Volume raised.

Cardiff have been very well organised and the game plan is working well, but expect more from Newcastle and expect Cardiff to tire.

I hope Cardiff City fans don't mind me saying but the atmosphere is pretty quiet inside the stadium - admittedly, the public need something to entertain them.

Midfielder Harry Arter is on the deck and then gets on to his knees that produces a round of applause.

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez seems to be frustrated about something and has a word with ref Craig Pawson before KO.

Isaac Hayden, who seemed set to leave the Magpies, comes on for Javier Manquillo and fills in at right-back.

    I think.

    We are back under way.

Am I crazy for thinking Newcastle would do better appointing someone like a David Moyes to bring back a bit of grit and backbone to this team? A bad workman blames his tools, and I am hearing too much complaining from Rafa for my liking.

  11. 'Cardiff have been the better team'published at 13:22 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

    Cardiff 0-0 Newcastle

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Cardiff have been the better team, they have been more composed at times.

Newcastle have showed that Premier League quality, with Jonjo Shelvey with some lovely quality long passes.

Kenneth Zohore has made a huge difference for Cardiff. Last week the ball was coming back too quick and it made it very hard for the defenders.

The entertainment level in that half descended like Brian Blessed on a sled down K2.

By the way, Kenedy failed to complete one pass in the entire half.

Fathoms Deep: Two evenly matched sides, both awful.

Kyle: Newcastle have been poor so far today. However to balance it out Newcastle were unlucky to lose to a top Spurs side last weekend we hit the woodwork twice. Every game is different sadly we have dropped to Cardiff's level today so far.

He is not the fastest or the most skillful, but Harry Arter already looks every bit the kind of player the Cardiff City fans are going to love.

He's neat and tidy in possession, breaks up play and is always looking to pick a pass.

He already looks a really shrewd signing from Neil Warnock

Newcastle full-back Javier Manquillo is down on the turf as a result of a Josh Murphy tackle, which is not a good sign for Newcastle because the Spaniard had been initially drafted in to replace the injured DeAndre Yedlin.
