Dele Alli then darts into the box at the other end but his cut-back from the right is cleared just in time.

Kyle Walker tries to lift it into the box for Harry Kane from deep on the right-hand side but the England striker barely contests it as Croatia's tall keeper comes out to collect.

Marcus Rashford looked disappointed when his number was shown on the board. He trudged straight down into the tunnel when the substitution was made.

Hopefully he's not picked up a knock because he's been England's brightest player.

England are being allowed to keep the ball in midfield but there's no way in as Fabian Delph and Eric Dier look to thread it through.

Croatia eventually win it back and break quickly but Ivan Perisic's shot is blocked. Here come England's final changes...

Croatian youngster Josip Brekalo drills a cross in from the right but it's cut out and cleared for a corner. The visitors take their time over the set-piece before it's hoofed clear by Dele Alli.

The referee waits to see if there's an advantage for England before calling it back for a shove on Eric Dier.

The free-kick is lifted into the area but it's headed clear by Croatia. Kyle Walker picks it up from far out and drills it towards goal.

It's on target but it's never troubling the keeper and it's comfortably picked up by Lovre Kalinic.

Croatia have an innate ability of how to win. They can grind it and their players are there at the right place and at the right time.

England are capable of one goal still to make the game very interesting.

Josip Brekalo holds off challenges from Kyle Walker and Raheem Sterling before the England forward gets a toe in and gives away a throw-in.

England win the ball back in midfield and they pass it around the back with more urgency. Marcus Rashford then drives in from the left wing, cutting inside before he's brought down by Marcelo Brozovic.

The Croatian reacts angrily, throwing the ball into the ground in disgust and receives a yellow card.

The change is made by England and Dele Alli comes on for Ross Barkley.

So as it stands, England are getting relegated to the second tier. Croatia will finish above Spain in the group and will be in next summer's Nations League semi-finals.

The Croatia fans went crazy when that goal went in. They have watched their side defend for the majority of the game and yet somehow they have found a way past Jordan Pickford. England manager Gareth Southgate looks pensive on the touchline.

Ivan Perisic is free to run down the left-hand side again but his shot from a tight angle, just a few yards out, flies wide of the far post.

This game has taken a real turn.

Large parts of England's performance have been excellent - pace, movement, threat.

Just that one, rather crucial, thing missing. End product.

And in that moment Croatia found it through Andrej Kramaric and now Gareth Southgate's side are up against it.

England have been vastly superior but we have also seen some of those glorious one-touch movements from Luka Modric in this half. Now Croatia have something to defend.

That goal has injected a spark for Croatia. They break down the left - Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic combining before Brozovic's shot in the centre of the box is blasted way over the bar.
