Has TDD taken you by surprise? Wondering how it might work out for the really big boys, especially with the rest of Europe still having time to get their business done?

Earlier on, I said that the Premier League may have inadvertently caused itself problems by opting to stop trading early.

We have some experts to provide an explanation for what I was banging on about....

  2. 'I'd be happy to compete with Fulham'published at 07:40 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

    Newcastle United

In normal circumstances Salomon Rondon might be considered a half decent signing. But Mike Ashley's Newcastle United don't deal in normal circumstances. Many Newcastle fans are currently engaged in a debate about the rights and wrongs of boycotting the club altogether and a season-long loan signing from West Brom isn't going to change that.

The source of the angst? Ashley. He told the fans a year ago that every penny generated by the club would be made available to Rafa Benitez. Like so much of what the man says, that is not proving to be the case.

There's a misconception that Newcastle fans feel we should be competing with the likes of Manchester City in the transfer market. With our two biggest signings having occurred in 2005 and 1996, and a pitiful net expenditure over the 10 years of Ashley's reign, I'd be happy to compete with the likes of Fulham.

    Get voting

If you're particularly eagle-eyed, you will notice that, at the top of this page, you have the opportunity to vote.

There won't be many supporters who think that their club don't need to sign anyone today, but the need for some is stronger than others.

So, in your opinion, which club is in most need of doing some business today? Follow the tab on the right and vote away.

If all that wasn't enough, there is the small matter of the Premier League getting under way tomorrow night. (Yes, really, tomorrow night. Get your fantasy football team sorted).

So, plenty of managers will be facing the press throughout the day. Jose Mourinho will be first up at 09:00 BST. It could be spiky.

We'll bring you the best of what the Special/Happy/Grumpy One has to say and keep you across the musings of all of the bosses of Leicester (10:45), Tottenham (12:30), Watford and Brighton (both 13:30).

As a starter, let me know how you're following TDD.

On top of that, and in the spirit of the shift of the deadline, let me know when you have been caught out by an event that has moved.

Ever been to a game only to find out it was played a day earlier? Did you not know it was a teacher's training and go back to school a day early? Ever turned up to a hotel only to find they made your reservation for the next year?

    Let me know.

Our top team of journalists will be racking up phone bills larger than the economy of a small nation. When they know what's going on, so will you.

And we'll be bringing the you the views from fans across the Premier League. If you've had your head down, only concentrating what's been going on with your club, we'll tell you what everyone else is getting up to.

So, this is the situation. This page, right here, will be running throughout the day, bringing you all the done deals, possible deals and you-must-be-joking deals.

If you're near a wireless, or are savvy with the various radio apps, BBC Radio 5 live will have all the news as it happens.

Every confirmed transfer will be on our snazzy list.

There will be the usual analysis and reaction from BBC Sport's pundits and experts and all the best of social media - including those ever-more elaborate signing videos.

And, it that wasn't enough, you can sign up for push alerts to your phone to ensure that you won't miss a move.

    For now, though, welcome.

As you would expect, BBC Sport will be across every cough, spit, rumour, done deal and tantrum between now and when the window slams shut at 17:00 BST.

Incidentally, that will be the last time we speak of anything slamming shut. In my experience, windows don't slam. They get stuck, require persuasion to be moved and eventually result in an injured finger.

Yep, it's the new, earlier, transfer deadline day.

The English top flight has decided that transfer business after the season begins is too much of a disruption and so, for the first time, the window closes before anyone gets on to the pitch.

    Which leads to two problems.

    1. A lot of clubs have barely seen some players since the World Cup ended.

    2. The rest of Europe can still sign players for a couple of weeks.

    More on this later...

This year, English football is having its own back to school moment. That feeling of something creeping up on you before you're anywhere near ready.

The World Cup final was only 25 days ago. Now, Premier League clubs are facing the last opportunity to get their cheque books out.

There is (and was) one crushing moment for all of us. Often, it came about needlessly early. About 1 August.

You were somewhere near a large department store and, horribly, caught a glimpse of a sign that shouted "Back to School".

Before you knew it, you were in C&A trying on a navy blue jumper.

    Ah, summer holidays.

Endless days of sunshine, cartoons on the telly, Alton Towers, day trips to Llandudno (insert the seaside town of your choice here).

    Bliss.
