Anon: No need for Spurs to sign players for the sake of it. No one worth buying, so we'll just have to do with the 8 World Cup semi finalists, Captain of the World Cup and the Golden Boot winner. That should do it!! COYS!!

  8. 'I spent more than the club this summer'published at 17:14 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

    Tottenham Hotspur

There are twists that can be put on this summer.

If Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose’s relationships with the manager can be turned around then keeping the two of them may well turn out to be a major positive.

There are additional contexts. The financial situation of the club. The early window closure.

Still, fans will say “I spent more on my season ticket than the club did on transfers” and they will be entirely justified in pointing it out.

Really hope Andre Gomes gets his career back on track at Everton. Hugely talented but mentally fragile and completely lost his way at Barça. Fresh start is exactly what he needs and he can be a class player if he gets his head right.

  10. 'A good day for Leicester'published at 17:11 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

    Leicester City

So a good deadline day for Leicester City with early business being the order of the day.

Jonny Evans for £3m is a steal, and James Madison could prove to be the buy of the window. Ricardo Pereira looks a good buy at the back and keeper Danny Ward is a keeper for the future. Rachid Ghezzal as the Mahrez replacement has been greeted with waves of indifference by the supporters. Big shoes to fill only time will tell.

Add to that list today's signing of central defender Filip Benkovic from Dynamo Zagreb on a five-year deal. Nice to see Puel bringing in young players with the future in mind.

  14. 'Taken the gloss off'published at 17:05 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

    West Ham United

The signing of Colombian midfielder Carlos Sanchez is somewhat underwhelming. For me, it has taken the gloss off what has been a superb window for us.

I don't understand why Pellegrini wants to sign him as I don't believe he will make a great contribution to the side given his age (32), especially with youngster Declan Rice threatening to be a real star in this position.

Having said that, like Lucas Perez, it is promising that we are signing players of this calibre as squad players. It bodes well for the season ahead and our annual injury crisis.

I just hope that when Sanchez gets his debut he doesn't repeat his first appearance at this summer's World Cup where he was sent off in the first game!

    Huddersfield Town

We struggled to get any joy from the flanks last season, so the capture of Isaac Mbenza from Montpellier should hopefully make us more clinical in the final third.

The Belgian under-21 international scored 10 goals in 41 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit in 2017-18 - an impressive feat for anyone, let alone a winger.

Well. Looks like Spurs not doing anything. Finally have taken over from Arsenal. Happy to come 4th. When did we last sign a player that made you sit up? Van der vaart?
