Earlier today Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho told a press conference he "wasn't confident" of making any deadline day transfers. He wasn't bluffing.

Vincent: It’s normal to be an Arsenal fan not expecting any deadline day news but weird to know they’ve actually done their business *and* strengthened where they’ve needed to.

Johnny: As a Liverpool fan it’s just nice to not be left fretting about whether we’ll make a big, marquee signing or not. Feels strange knowing we’ve not rushed this year & got what we needed in plenty of time!

Brendan Rodgers expects Australia international Daniel Arzani to join Celtic on loan imminently. The 19-year-old playmaker completed his move to Manchester City from partner club Melbourne City this morning but is set to be farmed out to the Scottish champions.

Speaking at Celtic's Lennoxtown training complex ahead of a trip to Hearts, Hoops boss Rodgers said: "He (Arzani) has completed on the Man City side, virtually most of it is completed on our side.

"He has been up here today so, like I say, we hope for that to complete over the next few days. He hasn't done anything since his last game with Australia a little while back so he is going to have to come in and adjust and get up to speed before we can even consider him for a game".

You'll never get the same starting date for all of the big European leagues, so you can't talk about standardising the transfer window. It's a gamble by the Premier League.

There was an expectation in places like France and Spain that Premier League clubs would throw an enormous amount of money around on Thursday.

Just a reminder that Tottenham are 45 minutes away from not signing a single player all summer, while Manchester United look likely not to sign anyone today.

Fred: Newcastle surely that's not it. It can't be over. Can it?

Jack: Honestly can't see Newcastle surviving this season if Rafa walks. Ashley needs to learn that our squad is not strong enough to compete with the other clubs around us.

There aren't many players who flop at Blackburn but end up joining Atletico Madrid from AC Milan. A good move for a man who missed out on Croatia's run to the World Cup final after a costly sulk.
