  1. Chelsea done and dusted?published at 15:38 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

    Chelsea

With Kepa Arrizabalaga and Mateo Kovacic arriving, Chelsea’s incoming transfer moves are likely done for the summer. Rumoured interest in Nabil Fekir was seemingly nothing more than a result of Chelsea’s friendly with Lyon earlier in the week.

Overseas loans such as Tiemoue Bakayoko’s to AC Milan don’t have to be confirmed today but if a Premier League team is looking at signing Kurt Zouma or Danny Drinkwater they are leaving it late, while Chelsea fans hoping to see Ruben Loftus-Cheek given a role this season will be delighted once the window closes.

Maurizio Sarri’s squad is still a work in progress, but he does have options in midfield and not forgetting, a certain Eden Hazard up front.

Neil Heywood: Relaxing day for Liverpool fans, squad looks good but the fitness of Sturridge is crucial, developed into a deeper role coupled with Shaqiri can fill that hole left by Coutinho. Finally behaving like a big club again.

P: As a Liverpool fan, I can't believe we're not signing anybody! What's going on? Do we want to challenge or not?!

Ben: Jose should work on coaching the centre halves he already has. Bailly and Lindelof both cost £30 million plus not long ago. Are they suddenly no good? What must all his moaning be doing to them? Man Utd have a great squad. Work with them!

Matt Winstanley: For all those who think that Man Utd have a great defence - maybe consider with better defenders Mourinho would have the confidence to play more attacking football.

  6. Is it 2008?published at 15:33 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

    Manchester United

United released the club's official app this week., external What is this, 2008? Perhaps we should think of it like a new signing.

Not much happening for United on deadline day so far. Reports that the club fluffed an approach for Diego Godin is so United under Ed Woodward circa 2013. Remember that summer, when the club faxed an offer for every player in Europe and then ended up with Marouane Fellaini?

A disastrous season followed. Mourinho has already predicted something similar this year. Let's hope he's wrong.

This transfer was really not worth the late night it caused the BBC Sport staff

One benefit of the 17:00 BST deadline today is that no transfers should drag on into the night.

Back in 2014, Radamel Falcao's loan move from Monaco to Manchester United was not announced until 01:30 BST. That was about half an hour after Danny Welbeck's move from United to Arsenal was confirmed.

I've also been up past 2am more times than I care to remember waiting for Big Sam to sign a centre-half. Jose's caught the bug this year.

Ashwin Kumar: I wanted Darmian, Fellaini, Smalling, Jones, Blind and Young to leave Manchester United. But only the best of the deadwood, Blind, has left. Realistic expectation is top three and maybe try winning the Champions League because we have got Jose. I back Jose. He is the best man for the job.

Spurs have given lucrative new long-term contracts to several players. The wages will have to be paid. Money doesn't grow on trees. Football fans are delusional and greedy at times. Spurs are run like a proper club with lots of English talent. They are doing it the right way. Get over it.

    Jack, Saints fan

There is more chance of Spurs signing Grzegorz Rasiak in a last minute deadline day deal than West Ham finishing in the top six.

    Manchester City

    Image caption,

'No, you can't have your wedding anniversary off...'

So it doesn't look as though Fernandinho is going to get too many weeks off between now and the end of the season. As the transfer window closes City have world class cover for almost every position on the park. Yes, OK I know we've got Bravo as cover for Ederson but stay with me.

If Stones isn't fit Kompany steps in, if Aguero isn't available Jesus can play, if Sterling is out Mahrez takes his place and the two Silvas can swap for each other too.

So playing in four competitions we can expect Pep to shuffle his pack this term and give key players a rest confident he has every position covered...... or has he? No he hasn't. When Fernandinho is unavailable I don't think we have anyone good enough to fill his boots. Who steps in? Delph? Can he be an effective defensive midfielder? He certainly did a great job as a temporary left back last season but I'm not sure if he is that flexible.

Gundogan? Despite being Pep's first signing he's failed to make any significant impression. What about John Stones? Might he be asked to step forward?

I'm still hoping the club surprise us all before the deadline, announce a new signing and give the most underrated player in the Premier League the odd weekend off.

I'm happy to go on record though and say that

    1. It's good to have Wolves back in the Premier League (proper ground, fans)
    2. I'm excited to see how they get on

I've probably offended someone there but it can't be helped. In way of balance let me say that the West Brom away kit the other night was nothing short of a work of art.

They are forcing the hand of clubs that have no option but to sell them.
