  1. Cheerio for nowpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

Fantastic goals, missed penalties, goalkeeping howlers, almighty scrambles, controversial decisions... We had them all - and more.

Welcome to the new season. There's a lot more of this to come, so join us again tomorrow.

  2. Hibs start against Steelmenpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    Hibernian v Motherwell (15:00)

Hibs and Motherwell also go head-to-head tomorrow at Easter Road in a three o'clock start.

Neil Lennon's side had a hard game in the heat of Tripolis on Thursday as they held on for a fantastic 1-1 draw against Greek Superleague side Asteras to progress in Europa League qualifying.

Motherwell have been hit hard by injuries and have been further depleted by the sale of Cedric Kipre, although manager Stephen Robinson will be hoping to spend some of the £1m fee paid by Wigan.

Again, we'll be all over that one with radio and text coverage.

  3. The 'perfect game' for Aberdeenpublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    Aberdeen v Rangers (Sun, 13:00)

Aberdeen will need to pick themselves up after the disappointment of their extra-time loss to Burnley on Thursday.

Manager Derek McInnes was full of praise for his men following a 4-2 aggregate defeat and is anticipating a cracker on Sunday.

"There's no better game to try and get off to feeling better about ourselves than by winning against Rangers," he said. "That'll be tough but it's a brilliant game to be involved in and maybe just the perfect game for us."

  4. Gerrard wants 'winning mentality'published at 17:56 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    Aberdeen v Rangers (Sun, 13:00)

Tomorrow is when Steven Gerrard makes his Premiership bow as Rangers boss and it's a very tasty trip to Pittodrie.

The squad at Ibrox has been overhauled, with 10 new faces and the promise of one or two more to come.

"Every fan, every pundit, every media guy will have his opinion on where Rangers are at the minute," said Gerrard yesterday.

"I don't think we need to get involved in that. We have confidence and belief in ourselves. We're trying to create a culture, a winning mentality, in the dressing room which helps us grow stronger - but it will take time."

That one kicks off at 13:00 and we'll have all the action covered on Sportsound and on the BBC Sport website.

  11. 'He just caught himself in two minds'published at 17:44 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    FT: St Mirren 2-1 Dundee

Dundee manager Neil McCann on Jack Hamilton's blunder that led to St Mirren's win.

"That's just a real bad error," he tells BBC Sportsound. "I think he just caught himself in two minds and probably not the time to do it but he'll learn from that.

"He's performed very well today, particularly in the first half, he makes good stops.

"Second half, we've got a number of chances, none more so than the penalty and Craig Samson makes a very good save.

"I'm not sure if should've been (a red card for the penalty) or not - I know the new ruling is in with the triple punishment but he's got to make a genuine attempt for the ball."

  13. Saints 'were dominated' - Wrightpublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    FT: Kilmarnock 2-0 St Johnstone

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright: "Massive room for improvement. They know it. They're extremely disappointed, which they should be.

"The frustrating thing is, we have looked really comfortable and been brave on the ball. People didn't want the ball today and people failed to pass the ball 10 yards at times.

"The two goals probably sums it up we had a set play and we got caught and the second goal comes from a simple five to 10 yard pass from us giving it straight to their player and he runs 30 yards and sticks it in the top corner

"They dominated us, we didn't do enough and we got what we deserved."

  14. Livi 'grit' pleases Millerpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    FT: Celtic 3-1 Livingston

    Livingston player-manager Kenny Miller.

"Tough. Everything we expected. Long spells having to defend very well, which I thought the lads did. The goals we lose are very disappointing. A free header in our box, the second goal is a breakaway from our corner. The penalty, on first look, looks very soft.

"The players didn't let their heads drop, they stuck to the game plan and worked tirelessly. Everything we know about this group was shown today. The grit, the determination."

  15. 'Pars win at a canter'published at 17:28 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    FT: Dundee United 2-3 Dunfermline

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

Dunfermline were the better team. They won at a canter. Allan Johnston's side will definitely be in the mix. United fans will be dismayed.

  17. Ntcham doubt for AEK tiepublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    FT: Celtic 3-1 Livingston

Olivier Ntcham is a doubt for Celtic's Champions League qualifier against AEK Athens on Wednesday.

Manager Brendan Rodgers says the French midfielder "looks like he’s hurt his ankle" and will be assessed.

  18. Celtic 'need to be more streetwise'published at 17:22 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    FT: Celtic 3-1 Livingston

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is content with an opening three points...

"For large parts we were outstanding," he tells BBC Sportsound. "It’s always difficult against an honest team like Livingston who are sat in. I thought we scored three very good goals and the only disappointment was right at the end. We need to be a bit more streetwise in that moment.

"Overall, I’m really pleased on the back of an away performance in the Champions League."

  19. A nice way to start - Clarkepublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    FT: Kilmarnock 2-0 St Johnstone

Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke, talking over the racket coming from a happy home dressing room:

"It's nice to start with a win. St Johnstone sat in and made it really difficult for us. We found it hard to get through them in the first half but we kept probing.

"It was a game in which the first goal was always going to be crucial and, thankfully, it came for us. it was a good reaction from a centre-half (Scott Boyd) to tap it in.

"In the second half, Jordan Jones got inside and started to look more threatening. Once the pitch started to open up, we looked better.

"Mikael Ndjoli can count himself unlucky not to start the game. He showed today what he can do. He is a goalscorer, he’s given us a different dimension."

  20. Not good for the blood pressure - Stubbspublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    FT; St Mirren 2-1 Dundee

A very hoarse St Mirren manager Alan Stubbs, talking to BBC Sportsound:

"Relief," he splutters. "I was pleased with the attitude but I wasn't necessarily pleased with the way the game went. It was too open. I don't know how my blood pressure will be at the end of the season if there are another 37 days like that.

"I want the players to be more vocal on the pitch. It's a quiet group and I still need to bring in a few more faces.

"We want players who have either played at a higher level or someone with potential that has not been realised yet. We are active with a few clubs and, if we get the ones we want, I'll be very pleased."
